Job Description

The City of Billings is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Support I worker to perform routine cleaning and sanitation of assigned facilities and grounds. Duties include cleaning floors, walls, windows, sidewalks, restrooms, work areas, break areas and public access areas of public buildings. Duties include removal of waste materials and collection of recyclable materials. Duties may include being observant of potential safety and security problems.Salary Range: $18.3475 per hour and includes an additional $.80 per hour shift differential. Salary reflects Step 3 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education, experience, and training.Work Schedule: Tuesday through Friday, 5:00 p.m. - 1:30 a.m. & Saturdays, 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.Employee Benefits:u2022 $10,000 Employer-Paid Life Insurance.u2022 Competitive Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance Options.u2022 11 Paid Holidays.u2022 3 Weeks of Vacation Earned in the First Year.u2022 2 Personal Days per Year.u2022 Robust Retirement Benefits.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:u2022 Uses vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners, polishers, as well as hand cleaning supplies to maintain facilitiesu2022 Safely uses cleaning chemicals, some of which may be caustic or may produce toxic gases if improperly mixed with one anotheru2022 Removes waste material to dumpsters and recycling to proper collection locationsu2022 Removes snow from sidewalk areas and ensures that ice conditions are treated with salt or sandu2022 Waters plants inside buildings and in the immediate outdoor areasu2022 Cleans break areasu2022 Cleans and maintains supplies in restroomsu2022 Monitors for and removes graffitiu2022 Performs a regular cleaning and janitorial materials inventory and notifies the supervisor when material stocks are lowu2022 May order department supplies in order to maintain a working inventory, preparing purchase orders for replenishment as directed by policyu2022 Receives janitorial supplies and stores them in designated areasu2022 Observes people or conditions that may present a threat to safety and security and reports them to the proper personnelu2022 Observes burnt out lights and reports them to the proper personnel for correctionu2022 Observes unattended packages left in the facility and calls for assistance if there is a possibility of a hazardu2022 Monitors heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems as directed and reports to the proper personnel to address out-of-order conditionsu2022 Moves office partitions and furnishings, or assists others with movesu2022 May provide routine responses to the public on basic questions such as directionsu2022 May set up tables, chairs, and/or stage for events and return them to their proper location(s) afterwardsu2022 Performs other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications & Skills:u2022 Ability to follow basic written instructions and simple diagramsu2022 Minimum of six (6) months experience doing general custodial work, or equivalentu2022 Must be able to answer basic questions from the public in a courteous manneru2022 A valid Montana driver's license or must be obtained within sixty (60) days of employmentPreferred Qualifications and Skillsu2022 A high school diploma or equivalentEqual Opportunity Employer.
