Description: BID/JOB ANNOUNCEMENT TREE TRIMMER Department of Streets & Sanitation Bureau of Forestry Number of Positions: 9 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Annual Salary: $33.86 This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the Cityu2019s collective bargaining agreement with LABORERS INTERNATIONAL UNION OF NORTH AMERICA LOCAL 1001 (BARGAINING UNIT 54). Select your correct bargaining unit FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN A REJECTED BID APPLICATION Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59pm CDT on 4/8/2026 The City of Chicago has partnered with the County, Municipal Employeesu2019, Supervisors, and Foremenu2019s Union Local 1001 to establish a three (3) year in-house trainee program, equivalent to 6,240 hours of paid on-the-job training (OJT). Class is a multi-rate title: rate of pay to individual positions is dependent on the number of hours completed. Under immediate supervision, perform tree maintenance activities including tree trimming and tree removal, and perform related duties as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES u00b7 Prepares tree for limb removal or complete takedown by placing safety cones; rigging ropes, pulleys, block and tackle to secure and control limbs before cutting and removal u00b7 Inspects and operates per Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements an aerial lift bucket and is lifted to remove selected tree limbs and trunks with chainsaws or pruners u00b7 Cuts tree trunks on the ground with gasoline or electric power saws u00b7 Operates a wood chipper to dispose of tree limbs and branches u00b7 Assists in loading severed tree trunks onto trucks for removal u00b7 Inspects tree for decay, disease, and insects u00b7 Operates equipment for insect and disease management on trees and shrubs u00b7 Prepares trees for planting, plants trees, and performs follow-up inspections for tree condition u00b7 Maintains and repairs a variety of equipment used in the planting, trimming, and removal of trees u00b7 Ensures the availability of adequate supplies and equipment on trucks to complete assigned work u00b7 Cleans worksite and performs ground level cleanup to clear tree debris _Additional duties may be required for this position._ Location: CityWide Days: Monday- Friday Hours: 6:00AM u2013 2:30PM THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training, and Experience Six (6) months of work experience in the trimming, planting, care and removal of trees; or completion of a job training program focused on tree care, landscaping, and/or ecological restoration with curriculum such as but not limited to: u2022 Aerial Lift Bucket Truck operation u2022 OSHA 10 hour o Pesticide application, management, and safety u2022 Basic horticulture and tree identification training u2022 Chainsaw operations, maintenance, and safety u2022 Chipper operations, maintenance, and safety WORKING CONDITIONS u2022 Exposure to outdoor weather conditions u2022 Exposure to loud noise, fumes or dust, oily or wet environment u2022 Exposure to insects and animals u2022 Exposure to hazardous conditions (e.g., heavy machinery, live electrical wires, extreme heights) u2022 Work performed in cramped or confined locations u2022 Work performed at great heights with the use of safety harness and lanyard EQUIPMENT u2022 Aerial lift bucket u2022 Hand tools (e.g., hammer, screwdriver, wrench, various chainsaws, pole saw, pruner/power pruner, ropes) u2022 Personal protective equipment (e.g., hard hat, hearing protection, shoes, glasses, gloves, vest, knee pads, chaps, harness) u2022 Safety devices or equipment (e.g., cones, barricades, metal plates, scaffolding, ropes) u2022 Powered and manual cleaning equipment (e.g., power washers, leaf blowers, brooms) u2022 Communication equipment (e.g., two-way radio, multi-channel communication system) u2022 Standard landscape tools and equipment (e.g., shovel, axe, weed cutter, fogger, dolly, rake, weed-whip, chain saw, pole saw, pole pruner, hand pruner, pesticide application sprayer) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS u2022 Must meet current aerial bucket lift weight restrictions to comply with OSHA and City of Chicago safety standards u2022 Extremely heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling (up to100 pounds) is required u2022 Ability to walk and stand for extended or continuous periods of time u2022 Ability to quickly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with one's body, arms, and/or legs u2022 Ability to climb ladders and/or stairs u2022 Ability to operate applicable hand tools, power tools, and equipment u2022 Ability to tolerate heights (up to 100 feet) while working u2022 Ability to climb in/out of aerial lift bucket u2022 Ability to lift and hold various equipment (up to 37 pounds) extended away from the body while working for extended periods of time NOTE: You must provide your driveru2019s license , transcripts or diploma, professional license, or training certificates at time of processing, if applicable. SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This is a non-Interview, No test title.
