Job Description

Description The Department of Medicine is seeking a motivated Staff Research Associate II to support a fast-paced biomedical research laboratory. This role will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), postdoctoral researchers, and PhD students to assist with ongoing projects. Responsibilities include supporting mouse experiments, tissue harvesting and sectioning, light and confocal microscopy, cell culture, immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, SDS-PAGE and western blotting, ELISA assays, and enzymatic lipid assays. The SRA II will also help maintain laboratory operations and compliance with UCLA safety guidelines, animal research protocols, and controlled substance regulations. Additional responsibilities include assisting with animal protocol updates (under supervision), coordinating animal purchases and transfers, and providing basic laboratory computer and IT coordination support to ensure smooth day-to-day research activities. Hourly range: $31.23-$50.24 Qualifications Required: + BS/BA in Molecular Biology or related field and or equivalent combination of education & experience + 2.5 years of basic biomedical research experience + Demonstrated ability to set and meet internal deadlines, work independently, use judgment and make decisionsu2002 + Ability to organize and update paperwork with supervision + Experience in animal handling + Extensive experience with immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy + Knowledgeable about cell culture and cell transfection + Proficient in performing high-quality western blots and SDS-polyacrylamide gels + Experience with ELISA immunoassays + Diligence, strong communication skills, honest, and ability to work well with minimum supervision or as a part of a group. + Experience using basic laboratory equipment (centrifuges, spectrophotometer, PCR machines, pH meter, balances, gel documentation) and experience with both PC and Apple computer systems and software programs (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). + Understanding of University procedures and policies for working with biohazard, radioactive and hazardous chemicals, and their disposal. + General knowledge of chemistry and meticulous preparation of reagents. + Knowledge of University procedures and policies for working with animals and controlled substances. + Ability to work well as a part of a team, have good communication skills, and willing to present weekly updates at group meetings.UCLA Health welcomes all individuals, without regard to race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, national origin or disabilities, and we proudly look to each personu2019s unique achievements and experiences to further set us apart.
