Summary The VA Central California Health Care System is looking for seeking a full-time Physician - Section Chief of Hematology/Oncology in the Specialty Care Service. This position is critical to the VA's mission to provide high-quality, Veteran-centered care. Responsibilities This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 24th, 2026. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be March 30th, 2026, with subsequent cut-off dates every 2 weeks. Eligible applications received after that date will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available. Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting The Physician is assigned as the Chief of the Hematology/Oncology Section in the Medicine Service at VACCHCS. He/she would oversee all operations within the section in accordance with VA Policy. The Section Chief will lead the Anticoagulation Clinic, serve as the Associate Program Director for the Fellowship Program and maintain a faculty appointment with the affiliated University of San Francisco (UCSF). Oversee operations within Hematology/Oncology Clinic; Lead the Anticoagulation Clinic; Oversee and manage all Oncology clinical trials; Serve as the Associate Program Director and site supervisor for the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program; Supervise Hematology and Oncology staff; Promote the development of healthcare professionals within the section; Participate in the hiring and selection of staff and ensure candidates meet VA and academic affiliation requirements as applicable; Provide day-to-day care of veteran patients, both in the inpatient and outpatient settings; Assess, consult, and treat hematology and oncology patients; Serve as an expert in chemotherapy and other hematology and oncology procedures, to include bone marrow biopsy and aspiration; Provide medical oversight for the Chemotherapy Infusion Clinic; Participate in research and clinical trials; Educate and train residents, fellows and other medical students; and Other duties as assigned.
