Summary The Painter position is part of the Facilities Management service of the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) Facilities Management Service. The incumbent receives little or no instructions in the performance of assigned tasks. The incumbent, by the nature of the work, often works with other skills/crafts. Responsibilities VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) is an integrated tertiary health care system comprised of two hospitals, the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro and the Nashville VA Medical Center, as well as 21 outpatient clinics located in middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. TVHS provides ambulatory care, primary care, and secondary care in acute medicine and surgery, specialized tertiary care, transplant services, spinal cord injury outpatient care, and a full range of extended care and mental health services. More than 146,000 Veterans in middle Tennessee, southern Kentucky, and northern Georgia trust VA TVHS for their health care needs. TVHS is the seventh largest VA medical center system in the nation serving roughly 75 counties with robust research and development, health care innovation, and more. Middle Tennessee offers an abundance of entertainment such as historic music venues, NFL Titans and NHL Predators, recreational activities, and natural sceneries ideal for any individual. Additionally, Tennessee does not have state taxes making the area more attractive to high-quality candidates. The Painter's major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Glazing and caulking windows on air conditioning equipment, cutting and installing glass, Installing vinyl wall covering, hanging paper, etc. Painting and refinishing furniture, wood and metal, such as desks, cabinets, chairs, operating room and building service equipment. Incumbent must have knowledge of accepted surface preparation and coating methods and Techniques. Knowledge of how to build up, shape and level surfaces, with metal and synthetic resins, plastics, and patching compounds, obtain finely smoothed surfaces with pre-coating agents. Skilled in the use of tools and equipment such as brushes, rollers, spray guns, trowels, screeds, straight edges, viscosity testers, graining devices, and wet and other thickness gauges. Prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms, and where the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard to reach places. This position requires the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee frequently lifts, carries and sets up equipment that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasionally, the employee may handle materials that weigh 40 pounds or over. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM Position Description Title/PD#: Painter/PD70106A Physical Requirements: The employee prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms, and where the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard-to-reach places. This position requires the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee frequently lifts, carries and sets up equipment that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasionally, the employee may handle materials that weight 40 pounds or over. Working Conditions: The work is done inside and outside, and dirt, spray, and fumes are usually present. The employee sometimes works outside in bad weather. Occasionally, the employee may be required to wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. The employee is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. The employee is occasionally exposed to the possibility of broken bones.
