Summary: The Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacy Specialist (ID-CPS) is a clinical pharmacy specialist and leader embedded within the Infectious Diseases service at Rush University Medical Center (RUMC). This role provides direct patient care through multidisciplinary ID clinical rounds, supports antimicrobial stewardship initiatives at RUMC, and contributes to the advancement of ID pharmacy practice through research, education, and guideline development. The ID-CPS collaborates with ID physicians, fellows, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize antimicrobial therapy, manage complex infectious diseases, and improve patient outcomes. This position serves as a key faculty member in postgraduate pharmacy training programs and affiliated colleges of pharmacy. Other information: Required Job Qualifications: + Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. + Illinois Pharmacist License. + Minimum of four years of Clinical Pharmacy experience OR PGY 1 residency completed within the last seven years, which includes Clinical / Specialty Pharmacy experience. + Knowledge in intravenous admixture services, intravenous drug therapy and chemotherapy. + Must be able to work effectively with others to provide safe and effective drug therapy. + Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and quickly in responding to and resolving a wide range of problems. Preferred Job Qualifications: + BLS Certification. + ACLS Certification (or shall be obtained upon hire). + Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties Board Certification. + Doctor of Pharmacy degree and residency certificate. + Experience and strong knowledge base in specialty drug therapies. Responsibilities: + Provide direct pharmaceutical patient care through daily clinical rounds with the inpatient Infectious Diseases consult service(s) at RUMC + Optimize antimicrobial therapy for complex infectious diseases including but not limited to endocarditis, osteomyelitis, fungal infections, drug-resistant organisms, and infections in immunocompromised hosts + Participate in restricted/protected antimicrobial approval and prospective audit and feedback in coordination with the System ASP + Collaborate with the System Antimicrobial Stewardship Program on guideline development, formulary management, and implementation of stewardship initiatives at RUMC + Develop and implement evidence-based ID pharmacotherapy guidelines, clinical pathways, and order sets + Provide pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic monitoring and dosing optimization for antimicrobials (e.g., vancomycin AUC-guided dosing, aminoglycosides, antifungals) + Participate in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Subcommittee of the System Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee + Complete medication use evaluations (MUE) and new drug/therapeutic class reviews for P&T as assigned + Conduct and disseminate scholarly and research activities relevant to infectious diseases pharmacotherapy + Serve as a core preceptor for PGY1 and PGY2 (Infectious Diseases) pharmacy residents and pharmacy students + Provide interdisciplinary education to healthcare professionals on antimicrobial use, resistance, and ID pharmacotherapy + Document all clinical interventions in Epic + Provide pharmacy representation on multidisciplinary committees as appropriate Rush is an equal opportunity employer.
