Job Description

The Boston Architectural College (BAC) was established in 1889 and has become a non-profit, tuition-based, accredited private school of spatial design offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs in architecture, interior architecture, landscape architecture, and design studies. Students work, either in a professional position or in community service settings, at the same time they are engaged in course work. Additionally, low-residency graduate degrees in historic preservation, sustainable design, design for human health, and real estate development as well as certificate programs are all available online. Position Summary Reporting to the Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Assistant Vice President of Faculty Affairs & Program Assessment is a key member of Academic Affairs leadership team in a 12-month, full-time exempt administrative position. The Assistant Vice President of Faculty Affairs & Program Assessment provides data-informed vision, strategic direction, and accountability around matters of faculty personnel and program assessment and oversees academic policies to foster educational excellence. This position collaborates with Deans and Ed Directors to design and implement proactive professional development programs that grow retention of adjunct faculty at The Boston Architectural College. The Assistant Vice President works closely with the Provost/VPAA on projects related to faculty affairs policy, process, and oversight. The Assistant Vice President will ensure and establish ongoing academic program assessment and improvement. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Administrative Management + Cultivate a community of faculty with a shared vision of student-centered classroom practice, a commitment to student success, and an appreciation for the BAC mission. Lead New Faculty Orientations and serve as liaison between Academic Affairs and the Adjunct Faculty Committee. + Develop focused professional development opportunities for faculty and identify such opportunities outside the BAC. + Build appropriate systems within Academic Affairs to assure robust and timely faculty evaluation, serving the mission and goals of the institution. + Refine and oversee the hiring process and collaborate responsively with Deans and Education Directors to support adjunct faculty recruitment, hiring, mentoring, and evaluation. + Build a robust data-driven academic program assessment system. + Provide project management of academic program assessments, including setting and managing deliverables and deadlines with Deans and Program Directors, to ensure rigorous data-driven evaluation with actionable outcomes. + Support accreditation evaluations, collaborating with Deans and VPAA. + Implement and oversee academic policies, ensuing compliance and academic integrity. + Manage all academic appealsu2014academic integrity, grade appeals, etc. Critical Success Factors The Assistant Vice President of Faculty Affairs & Program Assessment is a newly created position to support the short- and longer-term strategies of the College. Therefore, the incumbent must have demonstrated capabilities in the following areas: + Ability to forge new ground, thinking creatively and innovatively in the face of new challenges + Ability to engage and hold accountable key stakeholders within the context of shared goals + Project management skills + Ability to develop constructive and positive relationships across the college + Excellent written and verbal communications skills + Demonstrated emotional intelligence + Keen analytical skills + Ability to work and influence across institutional lines + Ability to prioritize in face of competing demands + Sound professional judgment + Provide Provost/VPAA with meaningful communication, updates, and information necessary to progress toward program, divisional, and institutional goals, as well as drive projects to completion and fuel innovative planning PEOPLE MANAGEMENT This position has no direct reports but requires strong cross-divisional and dotted-line coordination. Qualifications Educational Background Advanced degree in relevant discipline preferred, including Architecture, Design, Humanities, or Higher Education Leadership. Higher education teaching experience is also preferred. Salary: $95,000 a year
