The GPS Alliance communications team provides a wide range of services to our internationally focused units-promoting study abroad to students, supporting and engaging with international students, building bridges between the U.S. and China, sharing our impact with donors and alumni around the world, and much more. Successful candidates should have a range of print and digital design experience, be creative and flexible, and have a desire to work in an environment with diverse people and perspectives. This position is part of the GPS Alliance communications team and reports to the communications director. This position is not eligible for H-1B visa sponsorship. Responsibilities: Graphic and Multimedia Design (75%) Manage the development of print publications, such as brochures, flyers, and annual reports Design graphic elements, infographics, and social media graphics Serve as team's primary photographer Assist web developers in designing websites that incorporate University and unit branding, accessibility standards, and best practices Produce and edit short videos Supervise graphic design student worker Communications Planning (10%) Develop and implement a design strategy for achieving communications goals in consultation with communications director Work with communications team members and/or unit staff to understand needs, recommend design options, and provide effective materials Branding and Other Policies (10%) Ensure University and unit graphic standards and branding are maintained Develop and maintain unit-level graphic standards and advise on best practices Create templates and tools that can be used by units to increase the professional look of their materials Maintain digital asset library Follow digital accessibility guidelines to ensure materials are accessible and meet policy and legal requirements Professional Development Activities (5%) Develop a strong network with communication/design professionals throughout the University Participate in University communicators' events and professional meetings Attend trainings, webinars, and other professional development events to maintain current knowledge about important topics such as digital accessibility Qualifications Required Qualifications: BA/BS degree in graphic design, art, communications, journalism, or related field, or 4 years combined equivalent education and experience Ability to demonstrate graphic design skills with a strong portfolio Intermediate to advanced skills with the Adobe Creative Suite Professional experience working in the graphic design field Preferred Qualifications: Ability to offer creative solutions and respond to feedback Ability to balance multiple assignments and deadlines Ability to maintain relationships and work collaboratively Experience working in multicultural settings and commitment to promotion of an inclusive working and learning environment About the Department About the GPS Alliance As the central international office for the University of Minnesota system, the Global Programs and Strategy Alliance drives the University's global strategy and connects faculty, staff, and students with the resources and expertise needed for personal and professional success.
