This multi-orbit constellation will consist of 5,408 optically interconnected satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) and 128 satellites in medium Earth orbit (MEO), providing enterprise-grade connectivity for critical operations worldwide.Blue Origin's Emerging Systems is seeking an exceptional Principal Engineer to lead optical test development for the TeraWave constellation. In this role, you will develop and implement advanced test methodologies for optical systems, including structured light testing, wavefront analysis, and metrology techniques to ensure the performance and reliability of space-based optical communications hardware.Special Mentions:Relocationassistanceis available for qualified candidates.Travel expectations: Up to 15% travel may berequiredfor integration activities, launch campaigns, and customer/vendor meetings.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Develop comprehensive test strategies and methodologies for optical communications systemsDesign and implement optical test setups for performance validation and qualificationCreate automated test systems and procedures for high-volume productionAnalyze test data and provide technical recommendations for system improvementsEstablish optical metrology standards and procedures for the TeraWave programAreas where you may provideadditionalleadership include:Wavefront sensing and analysis techniquesOptical alignment verification methodsEnvironmental testing of optical systemsSupplier qualification for optical test equipmentMinimum Qualifications:Ph.D. orMaster'sdegree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or related technical field10+ years of experience in optical test development or related fieldsDemonstratedexpertisein optical metrology and test system designExperience with structured light testing, interferometry, or wavefront analysisStrong background in automation of optical test proceduresExperience with optical design and simulation toolsKnowledge of environmental testing for space applicationsPreferred Qualifications:Experience with optical communications systems or free-space opticsBackground in diffractive optics or meta-surface testingKnowledge of laser safety protocols and proceduresExperience with Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW for test automationBackground in statistical process control for optical manufacturingExperience with supplier qualification and managementKnowledge of space qualification testing requirementsExperience with optical alignment techniques and verificationWhy Blue Origin:At Blue Origin, we are driven by our company motto, GradatimFerociter, meaning
