Staff Accountant

Description OVERVIEW OF THE JOB: The Staff Accountant is a full-time, non-exempt position that reports to the Assistant Controller and works closely with the whole Finance Department. The position supports the financial operations by ensuring accurate accounting, compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and strong stewardship of assets. Overall Responsibilities: u2022 Ensure accurate recording and proper allocation of daily contributions; prepare and distribute donor acknowledgment letters u2022 Maintain the general ledger, including preparation of monthly journal entries and account reconciliations u2022 Assist with grant payment processing, tracking, and required financial reporting u2022 Support accounts payable functions, including invoice entry and check disbursements u2022 Assist in budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis u2022 Support month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting u2022 Assist with preparation of annual audit schedules and collaborate with external auditors u2022 Respond to internal and external inquiries related to accounting and finance matters u2022 Document accounting procedures and support the development and maintenance of internal controls u2022 Follow established internal controls to safeguard foundation assets SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS u2022 B.A. in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred u2022 At least five years of accounting experience, preferably in not-for-profit sector u2022 Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications u2022 Experience using Salesforce a plus u2022 Comfortable and competent with technology and eager to learn new systems u2022 Excellent communication skills u2013 both written and verbal u2022 Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple ongoing activities u2022 Excellent customer service skills u2022 Commitment to detail u2022 Strong interest in working in the nonprofit sector with a values-driven organization u2022 Must be able to multitask and thrive in a busy environment u2022 Willingness to take instructions and requests from multiple staff members Requirements SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS u2022 B.A. in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred u2022 At least five years of accounting experience, preferably in not-for-profit sector u2022 Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications u2022 Experience using Salesforce a plus u2022 Comfortable and competent with technology and eager to learn new systems u2022 Excellent communication skills u2013 both written and verbal u2022 Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple ongoing activities u2022 Excellent customer service skills u2022 Commitment to detail u2022 Strong interest in working in the nonprofit sector with a values-driven organization u2022 Must be able to multitask and thrive in a busy environment u2022 Willingness to take instructions and requests from multiple staff members Robert Half is the worldu2019s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
