Your Opportunity We are seeking an exceptionally talented and enthusiastic Wildlife Technician with a keen interest in the natural sciences to join our team and advance their career. Our Environmental Services group is dedicated to managing environmental issues professionally and proactively. We help our clients identify and respond to opportunities and threats within constantly changing regulatory and corporate environments, through active engagement with the public, stakeholder groups, and governmental regulators. Our team members have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects that may include endangered species assessments, environmental impact assessment, habitat restoration, wetland characterizations, and water resources management. Your Key Responsibilities - Conduct wildlife field surveys and habitat assessments for a variety of species using a variety of survey techniques (e.g., bird point count surveys, line transect surveys, area searches, nest searches, broadcast call surveys, eagle use surveys, aquatic turtle trapping, drift fence survey, mist netting, radio-telemetry). - Post-construction mortality monitoring at wind farms. - Record, enter, organize, manage, and analyze data. - Write technical reports for client and regulatory agency review. - Attend client and regulatory agency meetings, and provide recommendations and input. - Must have the ability to work in the field for long hours in all weather conditions. - Willingness to travel. Your Capabilities and Credentials - Must have excellent organizational and note-taking skills with a strong attention to detail. - Demonstrated ability to motivate self and others to overcome obstacles and achieve goals. - Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and to prioritize and balance sometimes heavy workloads to achieve goals while keeping up with a highly mobile and changing environment. - Demonstrated oral and written communication and presentation skills; and analytical and creative problem solving skills. - Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. - Team player with demonstrated ability to work well with others and keep other team members aware of project and client needs. Education and Experience - An associate's degree or technical school diploma/certificate in a related program with a minimum of two to three years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience is required. - Bachelor of Science Degree in natural resources, ecology, wildlife, or related biological field is preferred. - Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of wildlife survey techniques, statistical methods, conservation issues, and distribution and habitat requirements of Midwestern wildlife. The typical office environment is working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
