Summary This position serves as a Warehouse Worker Leader located within the Warehouse area of the Logistics Service in the Veterans Affairs Health Care System performing work that involves receiving, storing, selecting, and shipping general and/or specialized bulk and bin materials and equipment. Responsibilities This position serves as a Warehouse Worker Leader located within the Receiving/Distribution area of the Logistics Service in the Veterans Affairs Health Care System performing work that involves receiving, storing, selecting, and shipping general and/or specialized bulk and bin materials and equipment. Major duties and responsibilities include: Major duties and responsibilities include: Leads a crew to accomplish assigned projects and daily operational functions; Ensures awareness of trade techniques and practices; Demonstrates proper work methods and works along with others; Provides staff with daily tasks and follows up to confirm completion; Checks work while in progress and when finished; Discusses with supervisor the training requirements, problems and other issues; Ensures warehouse has needed supplies, equipment and tools for daily operation; Receives incoming shipments and checks items against the electronic purchase orders; Records, annotates and forwards discrepancies such as shortages and damages; Maintains the flow of the warehouse by moving, delivering, shelving, storing and inventorying materials and equipment; Performs other related duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Your background must demonstrate experience and knowledge of receiving, storing, issuing and the ability to determine storage location based on type, size, shelf life and security requirements of the items. Knowledge of inventory procedures to determine quantity on hand and basis for over, short or misplaced items. Ability to prepare inventory reports, check records, screen documents, operate and perform preventative maintenance on power equipment utilized in the warehouse, specifically forklifts and power jacks. Skill in manually stacking, palletizing, arranging and rotating items according to instructions relating to names, stock numbers, letters, codes, size, shape, shelf life, and date age of item. Skill in using hammers, pliers and other hand tools for opening containers or similar tasks. Skill in conducting inventories of medical and other supplies; issuing and delivering supplies within established procedures and guidelines. Ability to investigate all relevant aspects of problem(s) within the realm of employee's daily activities and apply systematic problem techniques with recommending timely, effective solutions pertinent to a problem. Basic understanding of Federal and State regulations governing shipment of hazardous material. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Work involves considerable walking, pushing, and pulling a variety of carts and materials handling equipment. Works offloading and loading trucks, lifting products on and off-shelves, handling boxes frequently weighing over 40 pounds. Will frequently handle equipment, furniture, and materials of an awkward and heavier nature in excess of 100 pounds. These items are typically handled using specialized equipment and/or assistance of co-workers. Greater physical effort may be required on projects involving the movement of large quantities of product over an extended period of time including, but not limited to, turn-ins, large shipments and deliveries. While operating vehicles, may be required to exert a greater level of physical exertion while backing and turning trucks, operating forklifts, or hand trucks on uneven terrains and uncertain conditions. Working Conditions: Required to work in storage buildings, pods, trailers, vehicles and warehouses that may be hot, cold, drafty, and poorly lighted. Employees work outdoors, on docks, making deliveries in all types of weather conditions during all seasons. Hazardous materials may be encountered in daily work activities. Duties will be subject to the possibility of trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, or injury from the use of equipment. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
