Job Summary Under the direction of the Manager, the lab assistant is responsible for support functions, preanalytical processing, scheduling and accessioning patient samples as well as postanalytical report scans and emails. Assisting with inventory control and order management, specimen storage and retrieval. Performs maintenance required by the laboratory under direction from the Medical Laboratory Scientists. Tissue Bank support required as needed. Job Responsibilities u00b7 Delivery and receipt of specimens. u00b7 Provides client services/support to physicians and other healthcare staff; answers telephones; answers questions and addresses concerns from clients; is an informational resource for the Department; demonstrates excellent customer service skills in all interactions with clients and patients. u00b7 Verifies, clarifies and resolves unclear test orders, contacts appropriate provider. u00b7 Performs processing tasks including receiving specimens, confirms appropriate specimen ID, verifies specimen labeling, process aliquots and batch (track specimen list) for send out testing. u00b7 Checks specimen quality and quantity. Reject unacceptable specimens. Log for department. u00b7 Epics registration , including acquiring patient demographic and pre authorization documentation u00b7 Investigates unreceived and missing samples and records findings u00b7 Freezer maintenance, specimen archiving, inventory management and ordering u00b7 Participant in special projects/teams and performs other related duties as assigned within the scope of the position u2022 High School Graduate or equivalent u2022 Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field preferred Experience: u2022 One(1) Year as a Medical or Lab Assistant or demonstrated experience in laboratory u2022 2-3 years as a Medical or Lab Assistant or demonstrated experience in laboratory preferred Knowledge, Skills and Ability: u00b7 Proficiency in HHC Computer systems i.e. EPIC, SunQuest, CoPath preferred but not required u00b7 Ability to provide excellent customer service skills and exhibit a professional attitude. u00b7 Knowledge of continuous improvement and project management. u00b7 Basic computer skills (e.g. email, Microsoft WORD and EXCEL) We take great care of careers.
