IP Engineer

TEKsystems is hiring an IP Network Engineer on a remote basis. This role supports a large telecommunications client and previous telecom experience is required. Candidates must have significant experience with Nokia and Juniper network equipment. Candidates must have significant experience with these routing protocols: BGP, MPLS, IS-IS, OSPF Certifications are highly valued and preferred. Specifically Nokia related certifications. Candidates must be authorized to work in the US for any employer on W2 employment. Sponsorship is not provided on this engagement. Description This position is expected to provide engineering design and implementation services necessary to support the companyu2019s IP/MPLS core network, carrier Ethernet transport systems, cellular data core systems, and/or video transmission services. Will be required to provide technical leadership and escalation support for various operations and engineering groups as well as technical training and mentorship to team members. Requires excellent communication skills to facilitate collaboration with various internal departments to ensure the reliable operation and growth of a converged and scalable carrier network. Essential Duties of All Levels in the Position: + Test new technologies and service architectures in lab environments + Plan, design, implement, and document new network implementations + Complete Engineering Estimates and Installation Packages as needed + Provide escalation and troubleshooting support for operations teams + Provide mentorship of more junior staff to support the growth of technical knowledge and experience Additional Job Requirements: As a mid-level engineer position, must have a comprehensive understanding of the companyu2019s IP/MPLS core network and possess the skills and motivation required to independently complete assigned engineering projects with minimal assistance and/or guidance. Must have developed project management skills necessary to manage multiple simultaneous projects while maintaining business deliverables for timeline and budget. Must have comprehensive troubleshooting skills to assist operations groups in resolving the majority of network issues that may arise. Essential Duties for this position: u00b7 50% Plan, design, implement, and document new network implementations u00b7 10% Test new technologies and service architectures in lab environments u00b7 20% Complete Engineering Estimates and Installation Packages as needed u00b7 20% Provide escalation and troubleshooting support for operations teams Job Qualifications: u00b7 High-level understanding of standard engineering concepts such as high availability, redundancy, reliability, scalability, and security u00b7 Strong ability to create and edit network drawings using Microsoft Visio application u00b7 Advanced experience with the configuration of Alcatel/Nokia, Cisco, Brocade, or Juniper routers and switches u00b7 Advanced understanding of routing protocols such as BGP, ISIS, OSPF, EIGRP, etc u00b7 Strong understanding of project management concepts u00b7 Strong understanding of RSVP, LDP, and PIM u00b7 Strong understanding of data center network design u00b7 Strong understanding of common transport technologies such as Ethernet, SONET, TDM, Fiber, Microwave, Satellite, WiFi, cellular, etc u00b7 Extensive experience with layer-2 Ethernet technologies such as VLANs, STP, LACP, MC-LAG, etc u00b7 Strong analytic, strategic, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills u00b7 Self-directed and motivated, highly focused on the company and departmental goals u00b7 Creative and innovative problem solver u00b7 Excellent written and verbal communication skills. u00b7 Ability to work collaboratively together towards a common goal u00b7 Ability to Identify, report, and resolve technical problems in a manner that is consistent with established guidelines Certifications: Industry specific certifications relevant to the discipline are highly valued and may contribute toward education requirements. Level of Education required to meet minimum qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent required. Bacheloru2019s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Telecommunications or related field is required. Or a combination of relevant education and/or work experience sufficient to perform the duties of the job may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis. Graduate degree in Engineering may be substituted for professional engineering experience on a year for year basis. Due to business needs employees may be contacted outside of the normal business hours to respond to the immediate emergency. You will be requested to provide an emergency after hours contact numbers.
