Summary This position is located within the Environmental Management Services Department at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing tasks associated with the EMS goals and objectives Responsibilities Assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties daily. Responsible for the cleaning of all patient areas, corridor spaces throughout the Medical Center. Plans daily and weekly assignments and scheduling. Trains staff and ensure they are using patient-centered care principles. Keeps subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures, and uses of equipment and supplies. Ensures all safety regulations and procedures are observed. Approves leave requests for subordinates, counsels' employees, and recommends disciplinary action to a higher-level supervisor whenever non-compliance with policy warrants. Makes formal appraisal of subordinates' work performance and conduct. Coordination of activities with other services. Routinely inspects assigned areas to assure the timely accomplishment of employee assignments, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment properly cared for and associated housekeeping objectives are accomplished in an expedient and timely manner. Responsible for the quality inspection of assigned areas. Performs within established guidelines, operating procedures and department and Medical Center policy. Works independently following up on all work assignments to ensure that established procedures, work assignments, and safety standards are being properly applied. Keeping immediate supervisor apprised of actual and potential problems. Work Schedule: Rotating Shifts, Weekends, and Holidays Position Description Title/PD#: Housekeeping Aid -Environmental Services Technician Supervisor/PD99911S Physical Requirements: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of heat and cold as well as inclement weather. PPE may be required in some circumstance as exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position. Care is required to avoid serious injuries (i.e., broken bones) when working on ladders, or when using 30-100-pound power equipment or handling hazardous materials.
