JOB REQUIREMENTS: Essential Functions: Provide one to one peer supportto parents/caregivers in a variety of community settings, including thefamily home Utilize unique lived experience to build professionalrelationships with youth and families enrolled in Wraparound to assistin navigating the mental health/behavioral health, youth justice, and/orchild welfare systems to walk with the parent/caregiver and youth toensure their needs are being met and their voice is heard, understood,and respected by the Child and Family Team. Work directly with theparent/caregiver within the family system to proactively and reactivelyreduce crisis triggers, role model parenting and crisis managementskills, provide education to the family, and support families duringcrisis. Role model recovery in all interactions and utilize livedexperience to engage families. Support the team to understand andidentify the family's needs and develop strategies to meet theidentified needs. Work closely with the family to identify a sustainablenetwork of supports and resources in the community to meet the family'sneeds. Partner with the Care Coordinator to build strong workingrelationships with community organizations that serve Milwaukee youthand their families. Collaborate closely with the Wraparound team toensure the needs of the youth and family are met. Support youth andfamily to engage in mental health services by accompanying atappointments and community activities. Attend and actively participatein Child and Family Team Meetings including the development andimplementation of the Plan of Care and Crisis Plan. Complete allnecessary paperwork in a strengths-based manner per WraparoundMilwaukee/Agency requirements Attend and actively participate in weeklysupervision. Other Duties and Responsibilities: Attend in-services andparticipate in staffing, weekly and monthly meetings and consultations.Assist with coverage for co-workers as needed. Other job-related dutiesas may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position. OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Job Qualifications:Minimal Qualifications: High school or GED/HSED required Graduate ofstate Parent Peer Specialist training Possess current Certified ParentPeer Specialist certification or become certified within one year ofemployment. Meet all WCS and contractor requirements for criminal andcaregiver background check, driving record, and references. Good writtenand verbal communication skills. Complete all Wraparound trainings asrequired for the position. Ability to display cultural competence byresponding respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures,languages, classes, races, ethnic backgrounds, religions and otherdiversity factors in a manner that recognizes, affirms and values theworth of each individual. Knowledge and skills to work with children,young adults, and families. Lived experience of parenting a youth withmental health, substance use, co-occurring, juvenile justice, and/orlife needs. Valid driver's license, automobile, and sufficientinsurance to meet agency requirements is preferred. Knowledge, Skills,and Abilities Working knowledge of positive youth and young adultdevelopment; patience and understanding of challenging life needs;knowledge of mental health and co-occurring needs; ability to interactcalmly and professionally with youth, young adults, and caregivers;ability to follow oral and written instructions and cues; ability toremain calm and respond appropriately in crisis situations; computerskills; accurate documentation; ability to meet deadlines; sensitivityto cultural, ethnic, and life needs. Other Job Information (ifapplicable): PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The position is mobile, with time spentin the community, including home visits, and in the office.
