Job Description

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County has an opening for a temporary full-time Urban 4-H Educator working from the Buffalo, NY office through August 2026. The Educator will serve as a member of the 4-H Youth Development team to assist with delivery and evaluation of the 4-H Youth Development Program with the goal of promoting thriving in young people ages 5-18 in Erie County, with primary focus on urban areas. Educator will be responsible for coordinating and delivering program objectives and plans in 4-H Youth Development programming, primarily in school and afterschool settings. Key program subject areas may include: leadership; civic engagement; life skills and workforce preparation; food systems;; and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS u2022 Associateu2019s or Equivalent Education. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS u2022 Ability to identify and utilize program resources from the organization and the community.u2022 Demonstrated experience with teen leadership programming.u2022 Coursework in Education, Agriculture, and/or Human/Youth Development. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Program Delivery - 75%u2022 Deliver high quality 4-H Youth Development educational programs and events that address local, regional, and statewide 4-H Youth Development programming priorities with emphasis on leadership; civic engagement; life skills and workforce preparation; food systems; and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).u2022 Utilize existing program curricula to address identified programming priorities.u2022 During the summer assist with implementation and leadership of youth summer program providing daily activities and events. u2022 Utilize a variety of educational methods which may include direct teaching, group experiences, media, newsletters, electronic technology, internet, and distance learning to deliver program.u2022 Serve as subject matter resource utilizing existing subject matter resources. u2022 Collaborate with community agencies as requested or required to facilitate programs and activities.u2022 Assist with ensuring a safe, positive, and supportive atmosphere during all meetings and activities.u2022 Provide educational program efforts via mass media including contributing articles to 4-H newsletter, utilizing emails, phone messages, and website postings. u2022 Interact with program participants, parents, and volunteers, representing CCE in a professional manner at all times. Present as a positive role model for youth participants in all program activities and programs.u2022 Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities in a professional manner as part of program delivery. Program Evaluation - 5%u2022 Implement and support program evaluation as designed.u2022 Interact with program participants, program committees, and other key stakeholders as identified to collect evaluation data. u2022 Assist in analyzing collected program evaluation data for reporting and program improvement purposes using standard, established policy, procedure, and methods.u2022 Assist in recommending program changes to strengthen and improve programs.u2022 Assist in the communication evaluation results and findings Administrative Management - 5%u2022 Assist with solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise within the program utilizing appropriate policies and procedures and with supervisor guidance as needed.u2022 Assist with identifying, anticipating, recommending, and planning for program needs/supplies.u2022 Assist with effectively managing program budget allocations.u2022 Assist in identifying ways to reduce costs and maximize existing resources within the program and Association. Administrative Coordination/Operation - 10%u2022 Communicate regularly with Erie County 4-H Team Leader. u2022 Accurately collect, prepare, and maintain paperwork and files.u2022 Coordinate and hold regular meetings with the Erie County 4-H Team Leader to prepare for programming, connect with community partners, and raise questions and concerns.u2022 Coordinate, compile, and organize existing program resources and program materials.u2022 Assist with the coordination, inventory, organization and preparation of materials, equipment, reference materials, etc. for programs and activitiesu2022 Assist in communication with participants and the public through newsletters, emails, phone messages, and social media. u2022 Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.u2022 Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures. u2022 Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected, accessed, and/or maintained.u2022 Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as requested.u2022 Transport self and/or program materials/resources in performing position responsibilities. Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%u2022 In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.u2022 Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required.
