JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY : Under minimal supervision provides comprehensive care to victims of sexual assault ages 13yrs old and older. In addition to following forensic principles and protocols to ensure the integrity of all forensic specimens collected by this examiner, this care includes the physical and psychological assessment, crisis intervention, prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, prevention of pregnancy, referral for counseling, collection of potential forensic evidence and providing testimony in court proceedings. Education Must have attended a specialized training program for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner-Adult/Adolescent Experience Must have a minimum of two years of clinical experience, preferably in Women's Health or Emergency Medicine. Skills Interpersonal and verbal communication (oral and written) skills required in order to educate and comfort patients and their families, maintain effective contacts with a variety of hospital personnel, and maintain appropriate documentation records. Phlebotomy Excellent assessment skills Licensures, Certifications Current registration with the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses as a registered nurse. Completion of "Healthcare Provider" CPR course, yearly. Prefer current FNE-A certification but will provide clinical training for RN who completed the didactic course within the past 3 months or who is registered to attend an FNE-A course Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk almost constantly (up to ninety (90) percent of work time and lifting and positioning patients (up to fifty (50) percent of work time). Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail and often in stressful situations. Working Conditions Normal patient care environment with possible exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature. Exposed to adverse working conditions due to performance of patient care activities and exposure to communicable diseases. Conditions of Employment Must obtain Maryland Board of Nursing certification as FNE-A within one year of completing the FNE didactic training.
