Summary This Medical Records Technician (Cancer Registrar) Coordinator position is in Medical Service at the VA Maine Healthcare System, located in Augusta, Maine. Responsibilities The incumbent has full program authority to administer the Cancer Registry program at this facility, makes recommendations for program changes to the Cancer Committee, the Cancer Committee Chairperson, the Cancer Liaison to the American College of Surgeons and to the Cancer Conference/Tumor Board Chairperson. The duties of this include but are not limited to the following: Plan, organize, actuate, and control all activities in the Oncology Patient Registry Program. Coordinate all activities associated with the Cancer Program at the VA Medical Center Provide advisory and technical services to administrative, medical, and ancillary professional staff Ensure compliance with Cancer Committee policies, American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer accreditation, VA Oncology Program, and NCI SEER Program requirements Administer the Cancer Registry program and making program change recommendations Serve as an integral part of the Cancer Program Identify reportable diseases using the VISTA Oncology Program Conduct thorough chart reviews of CPRS medical records to identify and code information related to cancer diagnosis, diagnostic procedures, extent of disease, and treatment Monitor and document lifetime follow-up for disease progression, recurrences, and treatments Ensure collected data accurately reflects the cancer experience Comprehend and monitor compliance with cancer staging documentation standards Submit cancer registry data quarterly to the VA Central Cancer Registry and annually to the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB). Voluntarily submit data to the State of Maine Cancer Registry. Ensure the registry is prepared for ACOS/COC Approvals Survey and maintain necessary documentation. All other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday,8:00am-4:30pm Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Not Authorized Virtual/Remote Work: This position is eligible for Remote/Virtual work.
