JOB REQUIREMENTS: Interpret from English to American Sign Language,American Sign Language to English or translate written text from onelanguage into another. Perform Essential Physical Abilities PerformEssential Cognitive Abilities Essential Cultural and LinguisticAbilities Interpret using knowledge of the structure and content ofAmerican Sign Language and English Watch, read and understandinformation and ideas presented through the use of American SignLanguage and English Interpret information and ideas through differentmeans and modes so others will understand Possess Essential ProfessionalAttributes Adapt and apply the ethical standards as set by RegistryInterpreters for the Deaf Perform Local Operational Work Processesdistinctive to the Employer Follow ethical codes that protect theconfidentiality of information. Translate messages simultaneously orconsecutively into specified languages, orally or by using hand signs,maintaining message content, context, and style as much as possible.Listen to speakers' statements to determine meanings and to preparetranslations, using electronic listening systems as necessary. Compileterminology and information to be used in translations, includingtechnical terms such as those for legal or medical material. Refer toreference materials, such as dictionaries, lexicons, encyclopedias, andcomputerized terminology banks, as needed to ensure translationaccuracy. Check translations of technical terms and terminology toensure that they are accurate and remain consistent throughouttranslation revisions. Identify and resolve conflicts related to themeanings of words, concepts, practices, or behaviors. Compileinformation on content and context of information to be translated andon intended audience. Adapt translations to students' cognitive andgrade levels, collaborating with educational team members as necessary.Check original texts or confer with authors to ensure that translationsretain the content, meaning, and feeling of the original material. Adaptsoftware and accompanying technical documents to another language andculture. Educate students, parents, staff, and teachers about the rolesand functions of educational interpreters. Proofread, edit, and revisetranslated materials. Train and supervise other translators orinterpreters. Read written materials, such as legal documents,scientific works, or news reports, and rewrite material into specifiedlanguages. Travel with or guide tourists who speak another language.Discuss translation requirements with clients and determine any fees tobe charged for services provided. OTHER EXPERIENCE ANDQUALIFICATIONS: Proof of high school graduation or its equivalent Proofof age-18 years or older Physically able to perform the work withreasonable accommodations and without hazard to self or others Able tostoop, bend, walk and stand for a minimum of 30 minutes at a timeAuthorized to work lawfully in the United States Willing to undergo abackground check Able to provide three non-relative references Requiredto complete drug and alcohol testing at the time of selection as anapprentice Complete a TB screen and have all immunizations up to date attime of selection as an apprentice Proof of graduation/completion froman associate's, bachelor's or an alternate pathways program set forthby RID and the state of WI Able to provide proof of hearing or DeafIntermediate Department of Safety and Public Services WisconsinLicensure and/or Department of Public Instruction (DPI) license.
