This position will build a foundation of services and enhance student health and wellbeing through prevention and education activities, consultation, and adherence to compliance mandates. This position is also expected to work closely and collaboratively with other staff and partners across campus and within the broader community. The Assistant Director serves as a member of the Student Development Team within Student Affairs. Minimum Qualifications Required Qualifications: u2022 Bacheloru2019s degree. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities related to public health, health promotion, health education, or a related field are encouraged to apply u2013 a degree is not required if the candidate meets the required years of experience specified in the job description. u2022 1 year of experience implementing educational programming, workshops, or outreach campaigns related to student health. u2022 Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: u2022 Masteru2019s degree in health promotion, health education, public health, or a related field. u2022 Familiarity with student health topics, (e.g., stress management, sleep hygiene, nutrition, sexual health, alcohol and other drugs, hazing prevention). u2022 Certification as a Health Education Specialist (CHES) and/or in Mental Health First Aid. u2022 2 years of experience working with or supporting college students (through employment, internships, peer education, or campus involvement). Position duties: Health Education, Promotion, and Program Delivery u2022Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to increase the health and well-being of the community, utilizing the best national practice guidelines, evidence-based research, and the 8 dimensions of wellness model u2022Deliver health and wellness programs, workshops, and educational campaigns appropriate to student population u2022Develop and cultivate a comprehensive directory of community partners and resources that address studentsu2019 needs, including clear guidance on how to access and navigate community resources u2022Develop educational materials and presentations covering a broad range of health topics, such as nutrition, physical activity, sexual health, and substance abuse and hazing prevention Evaluation and research u2022Conduct assessment of student and campus needs, initially to inform decisions regarding scope of services, and participating in national surveys as appropriate u2022Use needs assessment and relevant research to assess student outcomes, inform on-going programming decisions, and allocate resources u2022Evaluate educational programming, including outreach efforts, workshops, and trainings, including AOD and hazing prevention and education u2022Remain informed about current public health initiatives and research, especially as related to student health and wellbeing u2022Lead compliance efforts related to Drug Free Schools & Campuses Act and state/national hazing legislation, including chairing the DFSCA Task Force and monitoring campus initiatives Advocacy u2022Provides oversight of a Student Health Advisory Group u2022Inform institution of public health and wellness practices, policies, and equity issues u2022Conduct individual health coaching appointments and educational sessions as well as small group discussions with students centered around the 8 dimensions of well-being u2022Work with various university departments, student organizations, and community agencies to create a supportive, comprehensive wellness environment u2022Provide consultation and training to professional staff within the campus community on health and well-being issues u2022Develop, grow and sustain a certified peer health education program Communication u2022Work closely with Media & Public Relations staff to develop and execute a communication plan for population level prevention messaging and outreach opportunities via social media and other avenues u2022Communicate and utilize data from campus, national, and state level surveys to inform to talk and communicate sufficiently to exchange accurate information, move about the office and around campus to various indoor and outdoor locations, and remain in a stationary position either at a desk or in meetings for extended periods. Visual demands include the ability to prepare and analyze data and figures, accounting, transcription, use of a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
