Ensures consistent and safeservice delivery throughout the medical center /hospital. Patrolshospital buildings and grounds and acts to deter loss of institution,employees, patients, and visitors by preventing illegal entry byunauthorized individuals. Monitors surveillance cameras and reports anysuspicious activities. Enforces the access control program. Examinedoors and windows to ensure they are secure and check and maintainhospital vehicles' security. Monitors fire, security, and infantsecurity protection systems as applicable. The officer is responsiblefor responding to all calls for assistance and responding to emergencycodes. Ability to make decisions guided by general instruction andpractices requiring some interpretation. May make recommendations forsolving problems of moderate complexity and importance. Provides escortsfor patients, visitors, employees, and students. Assists in trafficcontrol for fire and other emergent situations. Handles disruptivesituations. Conducts preliminary investigations. Performs specialassignments as assigned by the Security Supervisor JobResponsibilities: 1) Patrols facility and grounds or maintains fixedpost coverage, inspecting security, health, and safety hazards,unauthorized persons, and unsecured doors and windows, makingnotifications, or taking corrective actions as necessary. Responds tocalls for service, alarms, and emergency code activation, rendering aid,traffic/pedestrian control, and clinician assistance, such asde-escalating emotionally distressed persons who may pose a safety riskto themselves or others. Report any unusual occurrences, propertydamage, thefts, and all suspicious activities. Prepares reports specificto the problem noted. Interacts with staff by communicating crimeprevention and security awareness information 2) Enforces the accesscontrol program. Issues visitor badges by policy. Explains accessdenials clearly, following policy guidelines. Identifies persons withoutidentification in all areas of Baystate Health facilities. Ensures doorswithin the patrol area are secured/opened at the correct times andcompletes unsecured door reports. Documents inspection of high-riskareas. Clears floors of visitors as requested by nursing staff. Issuesvendor and other specialty badges. Takes immediate action to correctsecurity/safety problems. Conducts building rounds to ensure thatdoors/windows are securely locked. Responds to requests to lock andunlock doors and also secure doors according to specified schedules 3)Focus on the protection, safeguarding, security, and customer serviceneeds of patients, visitors, and employees, as well as their possessionsand medical center property, in a manner that maintains the highestquality of safety and service to the BH Community. 4) Responds to codesand other emergencies immediately as directed by the supervisor.
