Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Office is hiring a regular full-time Registered Nurse to work in the Detention Center. Under direction of the Detention Center Commander this position provides clinical services to the incarcerated population and health care provider support at the Lewis and Clark County Detention Center.The current schedule:four (4), ten (10) hour shifts, either 7am - 5pm or 9am - 7pmWork every 9th weekend and work 12 hour shift, 7am - 7pm. When working the weekend, then will work two (2), eight (8) hour shifts during the weekday, and the hours are typically 7am - 3pm. For more Information Dutiesu2022Provides direct patient care to the incarcerated population and health care provider support;u2022Prepares patients for examination;u2022Conducts and documents initial health interview and all patient encounters;u2022Administers kite program, obtains medical records from outside the facility and assists clinic providers with diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures;u2022Documents all activities with the incarcerated population thoroughly;u2022Administers injections and dispenses medications;u2022Prepares and cleans equipment, exam and treatment room, performs quality controls on lab equipment and documents results and performs CLIA waived laboratory procedures;u2022Performs routine laboratory procedures including venipuncture, to include evidence collection, namely blood for DUI investigations;u2022Maintains clinical records, clinical and progress notes and other patient information;u2022Provides information to patients and authorized detention center staff regarding medications, treatment instructions, lab and/or x-ray reports, etc.;u2022Perform Intake Assessments on new inmates;u2022Provides health counseling and education materials regarding preventive health and lifestyle modifications;u2022Responds to inquiries from patients, pharmacies, and providers;u2022Maintains inventory of medical and office supplies, drugs and equipment and maintains patient files, records, clinical and progress notes and other patient information;u2022Sets up clinic appointments and assists with scheduling patient diagnostic tests, treatments and hospital admissions;u2022Arranges transport (in conjunction with the Transport Officers) for appointments that occur outside of the detention center;u2022May perform receptionist and other clerical duties;u2022Provides billing information to Jail Accounting Technician;u2022Respond to and treat emergency medical issues;u2022Performs other duties as assigned.Examples of Knowledgeu2022Montana Code Annotated;u2022Principles and practices of family practice and detention nursing; u2022Applicable public health statutes and ordinances;u2022Medical terminology, medical office procedures and practices;u2022Professional ethics, standards, practices and responsibilities;u2022HIPAA and medical records confidentiality requirements;u2022Infection control measures and practices;u2022Electronic medical records, including protocols, policies and procedures;u2022Basic understanding of Jail Operations including safety and security of facility, officers, inmates and oneself.Examples of Skills & Abilities u2022Maintain medical records according to prescribed clinic standards;u2022Operate computer systems and related software;u2022Communicate effectively orally and in writing;u2022Provide patient care according to prescribed standards;u2022Use medical instruments and equipment according to prescribed standards;u2022Access and maintain patient medical records according to prescribed standards;u2022Follow verbal and written instructions;u2022Establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, patients and citizens.QualificationsThe knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are typically acquired through completion of an accredited nursing program and one (1) year medical office, hospital or clinic experience. Current Registered Nurse licensure in Montana and CPR certification required. Detention center nursing experience preferred, but not necessary.Physical Demands Duties are generally performed in a clinic setting where hazards and discomforts are controlled and modifiable. This position requires the ability to bend at the waist, stand, kneel, reach over the head, talk, hear, and see. Must be able to move or lift documents and materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Position requires knowledge and use of typical office equipment including telephone and personal computer plus medical equipment and instruments. Position requires frequent contact with fellow employees, incarcerated population and citizens. Position may require travel to other sites for work assignments, meetings or training.Special Requirements u2022Must pass a background check and a preemployment drug test;u2022Must be currently registered as an RN in the state of Montana;u2022Work schedule is 12-hour day shifts and must be available to work weekends.
