The Head Gymnastics Coach is responsible for teaching gymnastics, preparing gymnasts for competition and progressing gymnasts’ skills in a safe and positive manner, while incorporating the YMCA’s Mission and Core Values.For information on Y Employee Perks, click on this link:Employee Benefits | YMCA of San Diego County (ymcasd.org)This position will be coaching competitive team gymnastics, levels 2-3, xcel silver and gold, open to higher levels.ScheduleLocation: Cameron Family YMCAMonday - Friday afternoons & Saturday morningsConducts organized and safe daily workouts in preparation for competitionResponsible for effective and positive communication with parents, staff and gymnasts, including leading regular meetings with parents and staffResponsible for teaching compulsory and optional routines and current knowledge of teams’ codeOperate within the YMCA discipline code and code of conduct at all timesProvide assistance to program director in an efficient and productive manner on various assigned tasksMaintain a safe environment at all timesUnderstand and enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and proceduresKeep equipment in good condition by returning to storage area at end of class and notifying supervisor when equipment needs to be repairedStay informed about the program specifics such as session dates, prices, classes, days, and timesWork with the program director to ensure all participants are registered and in the correct classMaintain accurate records of class attendanceDistribute certificates of achievement and program evaluations to class participantsShow enthusiasm, leadership, fairness, and fun through coaching styleImmediately notify supervisor regarding participant or parent incidentsAttend training events and instructor clinics when made availableEncourage positive social skills and appropriate behavior; lead by exampleMust possess proven and excellent spotting skills in all areas of tumbling and apparatusOther duties as assigned18 years of age or older, licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications2+ years’ of gymnastics instruction experience required2+ years’ of experience coaching competitive gymnastics and current USAG professional membership requiredAbility to spot school-age children in basic skillsKnowledge of gymnastics equipmentFamiliar with USA Gymnastics progressive levelsCPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:American Red CrossAmerican Heart AssociationAmerican Safety & Health InstituteYMCA will consider qualified applicants with a criminal history pursuant to the San Diego County Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act.
