No County Genesee Street Address New York State School for the Blind 2A Richmond Avenue City Batavia State NY Zip Code 14020 Duties Description The New York State Education Departmentu2019s (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Trades Generalist position in the New York State School for the Blind (NYSSB). Duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:u2022 Inspect all interior and exterior aspects of campus buildings by following all current Building Codes and Safety Standard procedures;u2022 Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical systems and motor equipment;u2022 Perform repairs and maintain knowledge of the fire alarm system and components;u2022 Move, ship, and receive supplies;u2022 Lay out work projects, set up areas for new construction, and work with contractors;u2022 Order supplies and equipment; andu2022 Assist maintenance staff, as required. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Tradeu2019s Generalist.Non-Competitive Appointment: Candidates must have four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. Candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license.It is essential that candidates clearly and concisely indicate exactly how they meet the above minimum qualifications in their resume. Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent, non-competitive appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointeesu2019 negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of valid New York State driveru2019s license will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicantu2019s expense. Fees associated with fingerprinting do not apply if applicantu2019s fingerprints exist in the NYS TEACH System. The work schedule for this position includes hours of 7:00am-3:30pm, Monday through Friday and includes a half hour unpaid lunch period. This position leads to a maximum salary of $61,548 based on annual performance advances. For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
