Job Description

Job Title: Parasitologist As a Parasitologist, you will be responsible for reviewing specimens to ensure proper labeling and container type, handling and disposing of specimens safely, and performing microscopic examinations of fecal samples for ova and parasites. You will prepare and review various stains and accurately document and report test results. Additionally, you will run quality control procedures, maintain accurate records, and operate, clean, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment. Utilizing the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to manage testing workflow is essential, as well as adhering to all laboratory safety, infection control, and sterilization procedures. Supporting internal and external audits and inspections, as well as communicating any issues or delays in testing to supervisors, are also part of your role. Responsibilities + Review specimens to ensure proper labeling, container type, and acceptability. + Handle and dispose of specimens safely and correctly. + Perform microscopic examination of fecal samples for ova and parasites. + Prepare and review stains such as wet prep, Trichrome, and Kinyoun. + Accurately document and report test results. + Run quality control procedures and maintain accurate records. + Operate, clean, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment. + Use the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to manage testing workflow. + Follow all laboratory safety, infection control, and sterilization procedures. + Support internal and external audits and inspections. + Communicate issues or delays in testing to supervisors. + Perform other related duties as assigned. Essential Skills + Bacheloru2019s degree in Biology, Microbiology, or Chemistry. + ASCP certification. + Meets CLIA personnel requirements. + State licensure required where applicable (CA, FL, NY). + 2u20133 years of experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory. + Hands-on experience with ova & parasite testing. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Strong knowledge of microbiology and parasitology techniques. + Familiarity with laboratory quality control and quality assurance. + Comfortable working with laboratory computer systems. + Strong attention to detail and analytical skills. + Good time management and organizational skills. + Ability to work collaboratively with lab staff and leadership. Work Environment The work environment is a professional and very busy department. All technicians and parasitology staff report to the lead technician, while lead technicians report to their supervisors. Shifts are scheduled by the leads, and the standard working hours are Monday through Friday, from 9am to 5pm. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Brunswick, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $44.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
