Go to CAPPS Recruit to Sign In DESCRIPTION: Perform highly advanced (senior-level) work supporting DNA cold case efforts in conjunction with the state CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) Program. Work involves utilizing the CODIS database to assist in cold case investigations by collaborating with law enforcement agencies to identify potential cold cases and aid in familial search requests. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position.Link Here: must fully complete the summary of experience to determine if minimum qualifications are met.ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Collaborate with internal and external law enforcement partners to prepare familial search packets for submission to the state CODIS Laboratory. Complete outsource case reviews.2.Utilize the CODIS database to identify potential cold cases and assist with research of cold cases recognized through law enforcement partners. novate novel ways to utilize the CODIS database to aid in cold case investigations. 4.Assist local and state CODIS administrators to ensure that matches and hits are dispositioned in accordance with state and/or federal statute and NDIS operational procedures. 5Perform biology/DNA related interpretation/comparison work.6.Perform reinterpretation of existing case data as it pertains to cold case CODIS evaluations. 7.Participates in proficiency activities as required to maintain work authorization.8.Participate in internal and external auditing.9.May serve as subject matter expert for major crimes and/or cold case review.10.May testify in court.11.Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.12. Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications: GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS: Education and#8211; Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelorand#8217;s degree with Major or coursework emphasis in biology, chemistry, forensic science or related is required.Experience and#8211;and#8226;Minimum of five (5) yearsand#8217; experience performing as a Biology/DNA Forensic Scientist in an accredited laboratory. Experience should include DNA analysis and evaluation of cold cases.and#8226;At least 3 years or experience as a CODIS Administrator is preferred.and#8226;Minimum of five (5) yearsand#8217; experience in DNA interpretation of samples run with Investigator 24Plex or Globalfiler is required.and#8226;Minimum 1 yearsand#8217; experience in DNA interpretation of samples run with Y23 or Yfiler is required.and#8226;Experience with DNA legacy kits (Profiler Plus/Cofiler, Identifiler, Identifiler Plus, Minifiler, Yfiler is preferred.Licensure and/or Certification and#8211; If driving is required, must possess a valid driver license from state of residence.and#8226;Must be able to obtain a forensic analyst license from the Texas Forensic Science Commission in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure Title 1 Chapter 38.01.and#8226;Must possess or be able to attain authorization in Profiler Plus/Cofiler, Identifiler, Minifiler, Identifiler Plus, Investigator 24plex, GlobaFiler, Yfiler, and Y23 kits within 6 months of hire.and#8226;Must provide proof of completion of the current FBI-sponsored training in CODIS software and FBI Quality Assurance Standards audit document training or completed within 6 months of hire.Regulatory knowledge and#8211; Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures. Must have knowledge of local, state, and federal CODIS laws.Technology and#8211; Proficiency with Microsoft Office and appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems (e.g. CAPPS, SharePoint and CJIS) and be able to learn new software/terpersonal Skills and#8211; Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.
