Job Title: CNC Machinist Job Description Operate Vertical Turret Lathes (VTL) to machine large engines, compressor components, and heavy industrial parts. You will be responsible for ensuring precise machining to meet specifications and maintain quality standards. Responsibilities + Machine large components to specifications using Vertical Turret Lathe (VTL) equipment. + Read blueprints, drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances. + Perform dimensional layout and in-process inspections to confirm conformance to prints and routing instructions. + Complete required documentation, such as job card sign-offs and SIS sheets. + Align and secure large castings or forgings using chucks, clamps, fixtures, and overhead cranes. + Load and touch off tooling applicable to VTL operations. + Monitor feed and speed of machines during the machining process and adjust offsets. + Identify surface finishes and ensure required tolerances are achieved on large diameter parts. + Deburr and stamp parts to specifications. + Operate overhead cranes and lifting devices safely to move heavy materials. + Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including chip removal and housekeeping. + Operate VTL equipment independently with little to no guidance, including setup. + Use advanced trade mathematics, complicated drawings, specifications, and precision measuring instruments. + Observe all PPE requirements and safety rules, including machining guards and safe lifting techniques. + Complete all other duties as assigned. Essential Skills + 5+ years' VTL or VTC machining experience. + 5+ years' experience machining large parts. + Ability to maintain tolerances of +/- .0005. + Proficiency with micrometer, caliper, bore gauge, dial indicators, and depth measuring equipment. + High school diploma or equivalent. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with CNC and Vertical Turret Lathe operations. + Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings. + Familiarity with Fanuc, M code, and VTL. + Experience with setup/editing of machines. + Proficiency in using overhead cranes and lifting devices. Work Environment Work in a climate-controlled manufacturing facility on a 2nd shift schedule from Monday to Friday, 3:30 PM to 11:30 PM or 1:30 AM. Opportunities for overtime and weekend work as needed, with an average of 45-55 hours per week. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $31.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
