Job Title: Animal Care Technician Job Description The Animal Care Technician supports high-quality research by providing daily care and monitoring for laboratory animals in a state-of-the-art vivarium environment. This role applies technical knowledge to assess animal health, maintain clean and safe housing, and ensure all husbandry activities follow established standard operating procedures and regulatory expectations. Responsibilities + Perform daily observations of animals to assess health status and behavior, promptly reporting any changes in animals or their environment. + Conduct environmental monitoring and accurately complete all associated documentation in accordance with established procedures. + Change and clean cages, racks, equipment, water bottles, and food containers to maintain a sanitary and safe animal housing environment. + Unpack, receive, and properly house animals upon arrival, ensuring accurate identification and placement. + Carry out routine janitorial maintenance of animal facility rooms, including cleaning floors, surfaces, and common areas. + Stock and restock supplies such as food, bedding, personal protective equipment, and cleaning materials as needed. + Perform preventative maintenance on animal facility equipment and supplies, following established maintenance schedules and reporting any issues. + Conduct monthly sanitization of equipment and facility areas to maintain high standards of cleanliness and biosecurity. + Maintain accurate records of animals, supplies, and equipment, ensuring data is up to date and compliant with internal and external requirements. + Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and lab safety guidelines while working in the vivarium. + Collaborate effectively with a team of animal care staff, communicating clearly and supporting a positive, cooperative work environment. + Be flexible to work required overtime, weekends, and holidays as part of essential personnel coverage. Essential Skills + High School Diploma or equivalent technical certificate. + A minimum of one year of experience in animal care or animal husbandry is helpful for this position. + Hands-on experience working with mice in a laboratory or animal facility setting. + Practical skills in animal husbandry, including feeding, handling, and monitoring animals. + Ability to perform cleaning and sterilization tasks for cages, equipment, and facility areas. + Experience with cage wash operations and related equipment. + Ability to follow basic standard operating procedures (SOPs) and lab safety practices. + Strong attention to detail for accurate recordkeeping and environmental monitoring documentation. + Ability to work effectively as part of a team of 10u201312 colleagues on a shift. + Reliability and flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Pursuit of Purina and/or AALAS certification at the ALAT level is desired and will be required after the first year of employment. + Familiarity with environmental monitoring processes and documentation in a vivarium or laboratory setting. + Comfort working in multiple vivariums and adapting to different team environments. + Interest in career growth within animal care and research, including potential advancement to roles such as Research Associate. + Strong communication skills to report animal health concerns and collaborate with colleagues and researchers. + Organizational skills to manage supplies, maintain inventories, and support efficient facility operations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Tarrytown, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
