Job Title: Data Entry Pharmacy TechnicianJob Description The Data Entry Pharmacy Technician provides high-quality customer service and accurate prescription processing in a busy specialty pharmacy setting. This role focuses on handling inbound and outbound calls, entering and verifying prescription and patient information, coordinating refills and deliveries, and supporting pharmacological services while adhering to HIPAA privacy and security regulations. The technician serves as a key point of contact for patients, caregivers, referral sources, and other healthcare providers to ensure timely and accurate medication fulfillment. Responsibilities + Respond to inbound and outbound calls from patients, caregivers, referral sources, and other providers to deliver a high level of customer service and maximize productivity. + Answer and resolve a wide variety of inquiries related to pharmacy services, prescription refills, delivery status, and general pharmacy assistance. + Address and help resolve customer complaints regarding products, services, and timeliness of receipt of medications. + Receive and process new pharmacy referrals, ensuring all necessary information is complete and accurate. + Verify insurance coverage and facilitate prior authorization requests as needed to support timely medication access. + Accurately transcribe prescriptions into the pharmacy system with strong attention to detail and data integrity. + Generate reports that follow the cycle fill calendar to identify and manage upcoming refill needs. + Send and follow up on refill requests via e-prescribe, facsimile, or phone to prescribers and other pharmacies. + Coordinate medication delivery and serve as the first point of contact for service-related inquiries and associated needs. + Support pharmacological services by editing and verifying fill lists, including insurance information, last fill date, billing details, and toting requirements. + Align (short fill) patient medications according to the cycle fill calendar to streamline refill timing and improve adherence. + Update patient information in the pharmacy system when necessary to ensure accurate and current records. + Coordinate the initiation of care with patients or caregivers, referral sources, and other healthcare providers. + Enter patient information into the patient record accurately and completely, maintaining all records in accordance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations. + Assist with inventory and fulfillment activities as needed in a high-volume filling environment. + Collaborate closely with the pharmacy team to support daily workflow and maintain a positive, team-oriented culture. Essential Skills + High School Diploma or GED. + Valid Florida Pharmacy Technician License. + Completion of a board-approved pharmacy technician training program. + At least 2 years of experience as a pharmacy technician. + Strong data entry and typing skills with a high level of accuracy. + Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish. + Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Excel and Access. + Willingness and ability to learn new computer software systems. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Strong time management skills with the ability to handle high-volume tasks. + Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and flexibility in a collaborative environment. + Consistent punctuality and reliability. + Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities. + Effective problem-solving skills to address patient and workflow issues. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Telephonic customer service experience in a healthcare or pharmacy setting. + Prior authorization experience, particularly with pharmacy benefits. + Experience with durable medical equipment (DME) processes. + Experience working in a retail or specialty pharmacy environment. + Familiarity with inventory and fulfillment processes in a high-volume pharmacy. + Strong interpersonal skills and a customer-focused mindset. + Interest in long-term growth with the organization and contributing to a family-oriented culture. Work Environment This role is 100% onsite in a specialty pharmacy attached to a community clinic, working in a close-knit team environment with approximately four pharmacy technicians and one pharmacist. The pharmacy operates as a high-volume filling environment, processing roughly 100 to 150 prescriptions per pharmacy team per day and supporting four local pharmacies. The standard schedule runs Monday through Thursday with full-day shifts and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., including a one-hour unpaid lunch that can be shortened to maximize paid hours if desired. The setting is fast-paced, collaborative, and focused on patient care, with frequent phone and in-person interactions. Team members use pharmacy software systems, Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Access), and standard pharmacy equipment to manage prescriptions, inventory, and reporting.
