The Design Studio for Social Intervention (DS4SI) partners with communities, artists, and social justice practitioners to imagine, demonstrate, and collectively rebuild places to be more just and vibrant. Situated at the intersections of design thinking and practice, social justice and activism, public art and social practice and civic / popular engagement, DS4SI designs and tests social interventions with and on behalf of marginalized populations, controversies and ways of life. DS4SI is a fiscally sponsored program of TSNE.The Communications Lead is responsible for DS4SI’s overall messaging strategy and its execution. Managing three part-time team members, the Communications Lead will oversee our campaign planning, outreach, social media and web presence to ensure the quality and consistency of all communications. The position reports to the Managing Director.Essential FunctionsWork closely with the Managing Director to advance the DS4SI communications strategy and translate DS4SI’s mission to a variety of constituents, both in person and through online platforms. Adopt and manage the editorial calendar, storytelling strategy and content planning processes Plan all campaigns related to DS4SI programming and activities from ideation to execution, seeking feedback from fellow DS4SI team members in the process, and track campaign performance once launchedOversee all aspects of communication projects, including storytelling narratives, the development of materials for programs and events, in conjunction with the DS4SI team and outside contractorsEnsure the DS4SI website is up to date with current projects, events, images, and team members, and oversee website redesign. Generate and distribute e-blasts (twice a month), including editing and curating content from internal and external sourcesConduct quality control on all communications, including auditing existing materials and evergreen collateral for necessary updates Collaboratively support the development and execution of all DS4SI interventionsServe as the liaison between DS4SI and press and media outlets locally and nationally to help publicize DS4SI’s narrative, methodology and writingWe will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.3-5 years working in communications, social media, or similar marketing role Experience or interest in communicating about conceptual, social practice, performance, and/or public art projects, especially around how they engage with public life and public makingStrong written, verbal, and analytical skills, as well as problem-solving capabilitiesOrganizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize projects while working on a deadline or in a fast-paced, collaborative environmentThe technological ability to work on a variety of digital platforms (utilizing programs such as Mailchimp, Squarespace, Zoom, etc.) and also create web and mobile content Willingness to grow and learn with the organizationRespect for economic and cultural diversity, experience working with diverse groups of peopleHighly motivated and independent, yet team-oriented Able to work occasional weekends and evenings Willing and able to work onsite in Boston at least 3 days/weekAdditional Skills and Experience Graphic design, storytelling, and video editing knowledge, and creativity to produce exciting and interesting contentEngaged and connected to Boston’s artistic community and local organizationsKnowledgeable in local and national press and media outletsPhysical Demands/Work EnvironmentThe physical demands described here are representative of those for this position.
