Our expertise extends into a full-range of industries - from healthcare and manufacturing to education, government, financial institutions, and more.General Manager - Branch OperationsReports To: PresidentLocation: Madison, WIFLSA Status: ExemptPosition SummaryThe General Manager (GM) is the local business leader responsible for the overall performance, profitability, and day-to-day execution of their assigned branch. This role owns branch P&L results, leads project and service execution, manages key customer relationships, and ensures all work is performed in accordance with company standards and processes.The General Manager operates with full accountability for local results while partnering closely with the President, COO, enterprise leadership, functional Vice Presidents, and the Business Operations Manager to maintain consistency, discipline, and scalability across the organization.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial & Business PerformanceOwn full branch P&L, including revenue, gross margin, labor productivity, and overhead controlForecast branch performance and proactively identify risks and opportunitiesEnsure backlog is balanced with available manpower and operational capacityDrive accountability for cost control, job performance, and service profitabilityProject & Service ExecutionProvide day-to-day leadership for Project Managers (HVAC, Plumbing, Controls) and the Service ManagerPrioritize workloads, staffing, schedules, and customer commitmentsEnsure projects and service work are executed in compliance with enterprise standardsAddress execution issues early and escalate when necessaryCustomer & Market LeadershipMaintain and strengthen key customer relationships at the branch levelServe as escalation point for customer concernsSupport business development efforts by providing local market insight and operational inputProtect the company’s reputation through consistent service quality and executionPeople Leadership & CultureSet clear expectations and reinforce company values at the branch levelCoach, develop, and hold direct reports accountable for performancePromote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvementSupport talent development and succession planning in partnership with HR and Operations leadershipCoordination & CommunicationCollaborate with enterprise teams including Preconstruction, Logistics, Fabrication, Safety, Finance, and HRWork with the Business Operations Manager to ensure consistent implementation of company initiatives and processesCommunicate proactively with the President regarding branch performance, risks, and needsDirect ReportsProject Managers (HVAC / Plumbing / Controls)Service ManagerProject Managers and Service Managers maintain dotted-line functional reporting to their respective Vice Presidents.What This Role Does Not OwnEstimating staff or pricing authorityBIM / VDC or engineering standardsLogistics, warehouse, or fabrication operationsEnterprise policies, systems, or compensation programsQualifications8-10+ years of experience in mechanical contracting or related construction servicesPrior experience leading projects, service operations, or branch-level teamsStrong financial and operational acumen with P&L accountabilityProven ability to lead teams, manage performance, and drive accountabilityStrong communication, planning, and decision-making skillsAbility to work effectively in a matrixed organization#ikmech#LI-SB1#LI-Hybrid#ikmechAs a leading provider of mechanical and electrical construction, facilities services, and energy infrastructure, we offer employees a competitive salary and benefits package and we are always looking for individuals with the talent and skills required to contribute to our continued growth and success.
