Actalent is hiring a Laboratory Technician in the Gretna, LA area ufeff Job Description The Lab Technician performs routine and specialized laboratory testing on donor specimens and quality control samples during the evening shift. This role focuses on operating and maintaining screening instruments, reviewing test results, and ensuring strict adherence to laboratory procedures, regulatory guidelines, and confidentiality standards. Responsibilities + Operate and maintain the screening instruments used for donor specimen and quality control (QC) testing. + Perform initial review and interpretation of test results for donor specimens and QC samples. + Conduct testing using refractometers and pH meters in accordance with established procedures. + Apply knowledge of screening and specimen validity test methods, including EIA, CEDIA, and ELISA, as well as the use of refractometers and pH meters. + Troubleshoot technical and operational issues with screening instruments and coordinate resolution as needed. + Follow all security procedures to ensure the confidentiality and protection of donor information. + Adhere to all established guidelines and policies outlined in the employee handbook and standard operating procedures (SOPs). + Read, understand, and comply with applicable regulations, including Federal 49 CFR Part 40 and CAP-FDT guidelines. + Communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors to support smooth laboratory operations. + Provide input and recommendations on laboratory processes and operations to support continuous improvement. + Develop and communicate laboratory procedures and reports using appropriate math and reasoning skills. + Work effectively under production deadlines and cope with stress related to production obligations. + Follow safety procedures to minimize potential exposure to toxic or hazardous materials. Essential Skills + Bacheloru2019s degree in Chemistry or Biology. + Experience operating and maintaining laboratory screening instruments. + Hands-on experience performing testing with refractometers and pH meters. + Knowledge of screening and specimen validity test methods such as EIA, CEDIA, and ELISA. + Ability to read and comprehend standard operating procedures (SOPs), Federal 49 CFR Part 40, and CAP-FDT guidelines. + Strong math and reasoning ability to develop and communicate laboratory procedures and reports. + Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with other employees and supervisors. + Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. + Ability to perform full body movements required for routine laboratory tasks. + Vision and hearing corrected to meet minimum acceptable norms for safe and accurate laboratory work. + Ability to cope with stress related to production obligations and time-sensitive tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Advanced ability to understand analytical techniques and laboratory procedures. + Advanced ability to understand and work with laboratory instrumentation. + Advanced understanding of certification requirements for SAMHSA, CAP-FDT, and other relevant regulatory bodies. + Advanced ability to understand the function and use of a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other laboratory computer systems. + General laboratory experience in a regulated environment. + Ability to provide constructive input and recommendations on laboratory operations and process improvements. Work Environment This position operates in a laboratory environment with an evening shift schedule of Monday through Friday, 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM. Work involves regular use of laboratory instruments and equipment, including screening instruments, refractometers, pH meters, and computer-based systems such as a Laboratory Information System (LIS). The role may involve potential exposure to toxic or hazardous materials, and employees follow established safety protocols and use appropriate protective equipment. The work is production-oriented, with deadlines and testing volume that can create a fast-paced and occasionally stressful environment. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, perform full body movements, and maintain vision and hearing at levels necessary for accurate and safe performance of laboratory tasks. Attire typically consists of standard laboratory clothing and personal protective equipment appropriate for handling biological specimens and chemicals. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Gretna, LA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
