Summary HII Mission Technologies is seeking Software Engineers across multiple experience levels (Entry through Senior) to support the design, development, and deployment of the Advanced Training Domain (ATD) Systemu2014a missionu2011critical U.S. Navy combat systems trainer. This team delivers highu2011fidelity simulations that enhance fleet readiness and modernize shipboard and shore-based training. This is an onsite, hands-on engineering role working within a secure environment alongside developers, systems engineers, and Navy operators. Key Job Responsibilities All Levels Participate in Agile sprint planning, execution, and reviews. Design, develop, test, and deploy C++ and/or Java software on Linux platforms as part of the ATD system. Analyze and resolve software issues, including STRs. Create clear technical documentation such as sequence diagrams, developer notes, and code commentary. Conduct developer testing in lab environments and aboard ship as required. Support installation, integration, and system verification events with minimal travel. Collaborate with crossu2011functional teamsu2014including systems engineering, test, integration, and Navy operatorsu2014to deliver highu2011fidelity training capabilities. Follow secure coding, configuration management, and Agile best practices throughout the software lifecycle. Teammates will also perform additional related duties as assigned to support project and organizational needs Level DifferentiatorsEntry-Level (Software Engineer 1) Works under guidance to implement wellu2011scoped features and support development tasks. Troubleshoots routine issues with assistance and contributes to documentation, code hygiene, and Agile ceremonies. Builds familiarity with ATD systems, Navy training environments, and simulation technologies. Focuses on learning, growth, and contributing reliably with limited systemu2011level ownership. Intermediate (Software Engineer 2) Independently develops features and resolves moderately complex issues. Troubleshoots across multiple components with limited oversight and contributes to componentu2011level design discussions. Supports GUI development, integration tasks, ActiveMQ/JAWS components, and lab/shipboard testing with minimal supervision. Advanced (Software Engineer 3) Owns subsystem development and deep troubleshooting. Leads sprint tasks and resolves complex STRs. Coordinates with multiple engineering disciplines, supports crossu2011team integration, and provides technical guidance to peers. Promotes coding/testing best practices and performs higheru2011complexity integration and testing activities autonomously. Senior (Software Engineer 4) Architects multiu2011component C++/Java solutions and serves as a senior technical contributor. Leads integration efforts across teams, drives technical decisions, and mentors engineers at all levels. Reviews major technical products, influences systemu2011level strategy, and owns significant ATD system components and roadmap direction. Note: System ownership expectations, troubleshooting complexity, and collaboration/leadership responsibilities increase with each level. What you must have Education & Experience Must have relevant experience with Bachelors in related field: + Software Engineer 1: Bacheloru2019s (0 exp) OR HS + 4 yrs + Software Engineer 2: Bacheloru2019s + 2 yrs OR Masteru2019s (0 yrs) OR HS + 6 yrs + Software Engineer 3: Bacheloru2019s + 5 yrs OR Masteru2019s + 3 yrs OR HS + 9 yrs OR PhD or Juris Doctorate (0 yrs) + Software Engineer 4: Bacheloru2019s + 9 yrs OR Masteru2019s + 7 yrs OR HS + 13 yrs OR PhD or Juris Doctorate + 4 yrs Technical Skills + Experience with C++ and/or Java development in Linux environments + Familiarity with Agile/Scrum processes + Ability to troubleshoot complex software issues + System ownership, troubleshooting complexity, and collaboration/leadership expectations will vary and increase based on level. Clearance Requirements + Must be a U.S. Citizen + Must have a current or active a DoD Secret clearance + Ability to otain a DoD Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II certification or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CySA+) within 3 months of hire if not currently held. Preferred Qualifications + Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, Data Science, or related + Experience developing or integrating Navy training systems or simulations + Familiarity with ActiveMQ, JAWS, GUI development + Experience with Jira, GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, virtualization, or container tools + Experience in Navy training environments or other mission-critical systems + IAT Level II certification or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CySA+) Physical Requirements Adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements Software Engineer family.
