Amazon Web Services is seeking Senior Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineers to become part of a global engineering team, responsible for the implementation and technical evaluation of our designs and the continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint. As a Fire Protection engineer at Amazon, you will be working with other internal groups as well as external groups including utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors. As an Engineer in this role, you will work with the Principals and Senior Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Engineers to drive the standardization of designs across the global region in production data centers and resolve open technical issues in the plumbing and fire spaces. You will participate in the research and development of new technologies and designs applicable to our products or services. Relied on as a subject matter expert in the plumbing and fire engineering fields, you write technical documentation for such projects. Your tasks include conceiving, initiating and leading projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation and implementation. You will achieve this by breaking down complex problems into straightforward and actionable solutions. This will be achieved by working with internal teams to understand user requirements and challenges as well as collaborating with teams or individuals from other disciplines, cultures and countries. You will escalate issues as required and communicate clearly and effectively at the appropriate level of detail with people from a wide range of technical abilities and backgrounds. Part of the role will also include the review and approval of critical equipment submittals including vendor Witness Tests, provide technical support on global Large Scale Events (LSEu2019s), including participation on deep dives, investigations and recommendations on mitigation plans. You will also be expected to maintain and host technical fire protection forums to provide a collaborative environment for development of data center systems. As well as provide support and mentorship for the whole of the DCC engineering community, all while having fun and offering creative, out of the box solutions. Key job responsibilities Under the direction of an engineering manager, the Senior Plumbing/Fire Engineer will be responsible for the following: u2022 Design and implement energy-efficient plumbing and fire protection systems for data centers u2022 Create comprehensive documentation for designs and operational procedures u2022 BIM/Revit experience u2022 Support continuous improvement through data analysis and system optimization u2022 Guide project teams through planning, execution, and commissioning phases u2022 Conceives, initiates, and leads projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation, and implementation. u2022 Decompose complex problems into straightforward and actionable solutions. u2022 Work with internal teams to understand user requirements and challenges. u2022 Collaborate with teams or individuals from other disciplines, cultures, and countries. u2022 Escalate issues as required and communicate clearly and effectively at the appropriate level of detail with people from a wide range of technical abilities and backgrounds. u2022 Produce clear and concise documentation such as detailed design specifications, white papers, wiring schematics and diagrams, and reports. u2022 Understand and safeguard implementation of the Global Plumbing and Fire Basis of Design (BoD) with constant auditing. u2022 Drive standardization in the data center plumbing and fire-protection spaces. u2022 Development of strategic solutions, which meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements. u2022 Capture requirements and turn aspirational company or customer goals into well-defined, achievable and testable specifications and solutions. u2022 Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during innovation and research and development projects. u2022 Provide technical support on global Large Scale Events (LSEu2019s), including participation on deep dives, investigations and recommendations on mitigation plans. u2022 Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions. u2022 Maintain and host technical forums to provide a collaborative environment for development of data center plumbing and fire-protection systems. u2022 Provide support and mentorship for the whole of the Data Center Engineering community. u2022 Have fun and offer creative out-of-the-box solutions.
