The Ophthalmic Technician 1 (OT1) is competent in the theory, principles, and practice of eye care. The position performs appropriate clinical testing in compliance with department standards and documents in the EMR system. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS + Performs and documents the following items in the electronic medical record. + A. Reason for visit u2022 Tangent screen visual fields + B. Chief complaint u2022 Basic ocular motility + C. History of present illness u2022 Pupillary evaluation + D. Basic review of systems u2022 Ocular surface assessment + E. Review systemic and ocular medications u2022 Eye drop administration + F. Record allergies u2022 Intraocular pressure such as Goldman, Tono-Pen, and I-Care + G. Pharmacy information u2022 Pachymetry + H. Family, social, medical, and ocular history u2022 Insertion and removal of hard & soft contact lenses + I. Visual acuity at distance and near u2022 Color vision test + J. Lensometry u2022 Stereopsis test + K. Manual refraction u2022 Sensorimotor exam + L. Confrontational fields u2022 Automated & manual perimetry + M. Humphrey visual fields u2022 Virtual Reality (VR) visual fields + Provides support to providers which includes documentation in patient charts as required and directed for patient care. + Provides patient-centric care. + Adheres to University of Miami policies, standards, values, and required training. + Complies with regulations and maintains patient confidentiality. + Follows best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control. + Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned. + Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness. + Meets daily productivity goals. + Ensures all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order. + Participates in assigned clinical research and maintains required certifications. + Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities. + Travels to satellite eye centers when necessary. + Works evenings and weekends as needed. + Performs organizational duties as assigned. + Completes IVI (intravitreal injection) prep for patients. + Facilitates motility exams. + Supports Virtual Care encounters and exams.
