Job DescriptionGeneral Summary:The Medicinal Chemistry department is seeking a lab-based synthetic/medicinal chemist to join our team. In this role the individual will design and synthesize small molecules to test key hypotheses within a drug discovery project. The chemist will apply their skills to design experiments and troubleshoot synthetic problems. The individual should have a passion for learning, strong communication and organizational skills as well as a sense of creativity, attention to detail, and a mind for the technical.Key Duties and Responsibilities:Perform organic synthesis of small molecules to support a drug discovery projectTroubleshoot and optimize multi-step reaction sequencesUse contemporary synthetic and medicinal chemistry principles to drive science and impact the programPrepare clear experimental write-ups and chemistry presentationsActively participate in discussions and present results at internal group meetingsAssist with publication and patent preparationCollaborate with peers and work efficiently as part of a cross-functional teamAdhere to laboratory safety policies and practicesStay up to date on relevant scientific literaturePerform other duties as assignedKnowledge and Skills:Strong knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry reaction mechanisms and retrosynthetic analysisProven technical proficiency and demonstrated skill in planning and interpreting chemistry experimentsUses own judgment to design and execute follow-up chemistry experiments within accepted scientific methodologiesDemonstrated understanding of analysis and interpretation of basic to moderately complex experimental data with emerging proficiency in problem solving and protocol refinementEffective communicator (written and verbal), especially within their area(s) of expertiseEmerging knowledge of other related fields or disciplinesDemonstrated technical proficiency in reaction set-up, monitoring, purification, and characterization of compounds with a focus on ability to carry out multi-step synthesesAbility to independently problem-solve and design follow-up experimentsEducation and Experience:Master’s Degree (or equivalent degree) in chemistry or related science and 0-2 years of relevant employment experience, orBachelor’s Degree (or equivalent degree) in chemistry or related science and 4+ years of relevant employment experienceFlex Designation:On-Site DesignatedFlex Eligibility Status:In this On-Site designated role, you will work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
