Summary Pulmonary services are under the Specialty Medicine Service Line at the Fargo VA Health Care System. Respiratory therapists provide inpatient and outpatient services to all patient care areas. Responsibilities The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest. As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will operate in a model with three core elements, seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran. This is done in the context of healing relationships and healing environments and a connection back to the Veteran's community. This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being. Major duties include but are not limited to: Initiate and manage invasive and non-invasive ventilation modalities. Initiate RT driven protocols to determine appropriate therapy for medication management, lung expansion, pulmonary hygiene, oxygen therapy, and ventilation. Document in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA), IntelliSpace Critical Care and Anesthesia (ICCA), and Event Capture accurately and promptly. Knowledge and skill in outpatient respiratory testing and therapies such as home ventilation devices, pulmonary function tests, nocturnal desaturation or apnea studies, and chronic respiratory disease management. Consistent with safe equipment and practice standards to include reprocessing of reusable medical equipment. Use data and patient assessment to establish appropriate plan of care and determine if outcomes are being met. Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality of patient care within area of specialty. Determine and implement complex respiratory care such as protocols, respiratory modalities, bronchoscopy, medications or supplemental oxygen and intubation. Use advanced modes of ventilation and outpatient services, such as home ventilators and COPD case management Work Schedule: 7:00pm to 7:00am Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and every other Thursday.
