Job Title: Designer u2013 Electrical Systems for Motor Coaches Job Description This role focuses on the electrical design and drafting of high-end motor coaches, with a strong emphasis on wire harnesses, electrical systems, and routing/layouts. The designer uses AutoCAD Electrical and SolidWorks to create detailed electrical designs and collaborates closely with engineering teams to support prototype development and troubleshooting of vehicle electrical systems. Responsibilities + Design and draft electrical systems and wire harnesses for high-end motor coaches using AutoCAD Electrical and SolidWorks. + Develop detailed electrical routings and layouts that meet performance, safety, and quality requirements. + Create and maintain accurate electrical drawings, schematics, and documentation for production and engineering teams. + Collaborate with other engineers and designers to integrate electrical designs with overall vehicle layouts and mechanical systems. + Support prototype builds by reviewing designs, answering technical questions, and updating drawings as needed. + Troubleshoot electrical systems on prototype vehicles, identifying issues related to routing, harness design, and component integration. + Incorporate feedback from manufacturing, engineering, and testing into revised electrical designs and documentation. + Participate in design and project meetings to review concepts, resolve design challenges, and ensure alignment with project goals. + Work with the manufacturing floor as needed to clarify electrical designs and support smooth transition from design to production. Essential Skills + Proven experience in wire harness and electrical systems design and drafting. + Hands-on experience using CAD tools for electrical design, specifically AutoCAD and SolidWorks. + Ability to design and document electrical routings and layouts for complex vehicles or similar products. + Strong understanding of electrical system components, wire harness construction, and routing best practices. + Capability to troubleshoot electrical systems on prototype vehicles and translate findings into design improvements. + Effective communication skills to work with engineers, drafters, and manufacturing personnel. + Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, clear, and complete electrical drawings. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) is highly desirable. + Solid internship or co-op experience in electrical design, preferably involving wire harnesses or vehicle electrical systems. + Experience working with high-end vehicles, motor coaches, or similar complex products is a plus. + Ability to collaborate in a team-oriented engineering environment and contribute to continuous improvement of designs and processes. Work Environment The position is based in an office cubicle environment where the designer spends the majority of the time performing CAD work at a computer. The role involves regular collaboration with other engineers in meetings to review designs and resolve technical issues. There are occasional trips to the manufacturing floor to support prototype builds, clarify design intent, and assist with troubleshooting electrical systems. The environment combines focused design work with hands-on interaction with prototypes and production teams. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
