Summary Demonstrate proficiency in practice based on conscious and deliberate planning in the care and management of patients/residents with acute and chronic wounds across clinical practice settings. Self-directed in goal setting for managing complex client situations. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Responsibilities Duties include but not limited to: Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. The Wound Care & Staff Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to patients with oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants as appropriate to the setting. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team regarding the quality of care. Utilizes evidence-based practice to improve, guide and expand knowledge of skin and wound practice, assessment, and management (and may include ostomy and continence care). Responsibilities include leadership in evaluation of clinical practice, enhancement of staff knowledge, development of patient/resident education and clinical support to interprofessional staff (e.g., nurses, clinicians, physical therapist, and other clinical staff). The Wound Care RN will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and enhance outcomes utilization. Initiates a plan of care that promotes patient/resident and clinical staff progressive understanding of skin and wound management and healing. The Wound Care RN integrates knowledge, skills, abilities, and judgment and is self-directed in goal setting for managing complex wound care situations. Validates understanding of the rationale for care processes and decisions. Demonstrates expanded wound care knowledge base of the nursing process in the care of assigned patients. Developing basic leadership skills within the department/service through seeking additional leadership experiences. Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care. Demonstrates the ability to cope with and manage competing priorities. The Wound Care RN demonstrates wound care competence in practice and decision-making, deliberate planning, and critical thinking skills. 30 Day Hiring Model The Department of Veterans Affairs is implementing a streamlined 30-Day Hiring Model designed to accelerate hiring while maintaining the highest standards of merit-based selection. Clear and Timely Communication: Applicants will receive clear communication at key milestones, including referral, tentative offer, and onboarding instructions. After meeting pre-employment requirements, candidates will receive a final job offer and start date. Onboarding tasks may continue after starting, with HR ensuring timely completion for a smooth transition into VA service.
