CHARGE NURSE, FH -3W - CARDIAC PROGRESSIVE CARE FTE: 0.900000 Standard Hours: 36.00 Shift:Shift 3 Shift Details: 1900-0700 Job Summary: 3WEST is a 50 bed CardiacProgressive Care Unit that sees a multitude of complex patients,including medicine overflow. Many of our patients require advancedmonitoring, or an elevated level of care. RN's obtain specializedskills to care for this population including being ACLS trained within 1year of RN hire. Specialties often cared for on 3WEST include,cardiothoracic surgery, electrophysiology, advanced heart failure,lung/heart transplant, trans-venous pacing, mechanical circulatorysupport, and DKA management, as well as heated high flow oxygen needsfrom many medical teams. 3WEST is a great place to learn while achievingan elevated scope of practice outside of the ICU setting. The ChargeNurse is a Registered Nurse with unit lead responsibilities for patientflow and adjustment of unit staffing to meet the dynamic needs of thepatients. The Charge Nurse will use the nursing process to make ongoingevaluations of patients' acuity, assessments of the staff nursesworkload, and anticipate fluctuations in admissions, discharges andtransfers. The facilitation of patient flow includes triaging andprioritizing admissions and overseeing the care coordination of patientsbeing discharged/transferred. Daily nurse staffing includes employingeffective decision-making behaviors that are used to safely balancechanges in patient acuity and census with the availability, experienceand competency of the staff nurses, to ensure safe and adequate staffingfor all shifts. The Charge Nurse will demonstrate resourcefulness,tactful communication, flexibility, adaptability, decisiveness andawareness of the global needs of the hospital. The Charge Nurse will bea cli nical leader and resource on the unit, collaborating with theinterdisciplinary team to facilitate patient care stay progression andunit goals. The Charge Nurse will assume a patient assignment asdetermined by the needs of the unit. As appropriate and/or delegated bythe Nurse Manager, the Charge Nurse monitors and intervenes inaddressing opportunities for assuring regulatory compliance, qualityeffectiveness and a satisfactory patient experience. When working as aclinical Staff RN the Charge Nurse is a practitioner who is responsiblefor assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care foran identified group of patients in an inpatient environment. Thisindividual demonstrates competency in delivery of care to a primarilyadult population. The Staff RN-Inpatient job description hasincorporated essential functions which are adapted from the ANA Nursing:Scope and Standards of Practice, 2nd Edition (2010). EXPERIENCEDESCRIPTION: Clinical competence and experience in the care andmanagement of target patient populations specific to area of employmentis required. A minimum of 2 years of related clinical experience isrequired, unless approved by the Unit Manager. If applying to CriticalCare position, must have 2 years of Critical Care experience, unlessapproved by the Unit Manager. EDUCATION DESCRIPTION: Bachelors Degree inNursing is required. Will consider current Froedtert Health non BSNprepared RNs with demonstrated leadership skills that have at least 5years experience in an acute care setting and formal commitment and planto obtain a Bachelors Degree in Nursing within 5 years of starting inrole. If an incumbent is functioning as a Charge RN as of June 1, 2016,and has 2-3 years experience in this role the Bachelors Degree inNursing educational requirement may be waived.
