This role focuses on inpatient and acute care management, including consults, postoperative care, and coordination with surgical and medical teams to optimize patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities (MD/DO u2013 Acute Care Urology, Inpatient) Consultation Services + Respond promptly to inpatient and emergency department urology consults. + Perform complete assessments, formulate management plans, and communicate recommendations to referring teams. + Prioritize consults based on clinical urgency and patient acuity. Inpatient Clinical Management + Provide comprehensive care for patients admitted under the Urology service, including initial evaluation, diagnosis, and daily management. + Conduct daily rounds on postoperative and medical urology inpatients, adjusting treatment plans as clinically indicated. + Manage acute urologic conditions such as urinary retention, hematuria, nephrolithiasis, infections, and urologic trauma. + Coordinate preoperative optimization and postoperative recovery for surgical patients. + Evaluate and manage urgent urologic issues in consultation with the Emergency Department and other inpatient teams. Procedural Responsibilities + Perform bedside and minor urologic procedures such as catheter placements/exchanges, bladder irrigations, nephrostomy and stent management, and cystoscopy (if credentialed). + Assist or independently perform surgical procedures in the operating room as assigned, depending on departmental needs and credentials. + Ensure appropriate pre-procedure evaluation and post-procedure care. Coordination & Communication + Collaborate closely with the Urology attending team, advanced practice providers, residents, nursing staff, and ancillary services. + Participate in multidisciplinary rounds to ensure coordinated patient care. + Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients and families regarding diagnoses, procedures, and treatment plans. Documentation & Continuity of Care + Complete timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR), including admission notes, progress notes, operative reports, and discharge summaries. + Coordinate discharge planning, ensuring clear follow-up and outpatient continuity of care. + Adhere to institutional protocols, billing documentation standards, and compliance requirements. + Participate in outpatient Transition Care Management (TCM) clinics as needed/required by the service line and facility for quality outcomes Teaching, Quality, and Professional Development + Participate in the education and supervision of residents, medical students, and other trainees. + Engage in quality improvement, patient safety, and peer-review initiatives within the department. + Maintain current clinical knowledge through continuing medical education and evidence-based practice. + Contribute to departmental meetings, rounds, and case discussions.
