Test Shoppers Location: Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District Vacancy Status: Casual Rate of Pay: $16.60 Position Summary Algoma Public Health is hiring Test Shoppers to work with Environmental Assistants to ensure that tobacco and vapour product retailers comply with the youth access restrictions under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act. Test shopping will be conducted after school hours, on the weekends and during school breaks. Role and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Accompany our Environmental Assistants to tobacco retail outlets. Attempt to purchase tobacco/e-cigarette/vaping products, and if successful, turn over the products, following the established instructions and procedure. Provide a summary of each retail visit to the Environmental Assistants and make accurate and descriptive notes. Attend court and testify under oath about actions and observations, if and when the need arises. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications, Requirements, and Skills for this position include (but not limited to): Current high school students between the ages of 14 to 17. Advanced oral and written proficiency in English is essential. Proficiency in both official languages, as well as knowledge of additional languages relevant to our diverse communities, will be considered an asset. Having good observation skills and the ability to remember details. The ability to write clear and concise notes and communicate effectively with the Environmental Assistant.
