Description: ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN Department of Fleet & Facility Management Bureau of Facility Operation Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Annual Salary: $57.75 This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the Cityu2019s collective bargaining agreement with IBEW LOCAL 134 (BARGAINING Unit 32). Select your correct bargaining unit FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN A REJECTED BID APPLICATION Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59pm CDT on 5/4/2026 Under supervision, installs, programs, operates and repairs building automated systems (BAS) located in city offices, municipal facilities and airport terminals, and performs related duties as required ESSENTIAL DUTIES u2022 Installs, programs, operates and repairs BAS used to control and maintain integrated building management systems (e.g., heating, ventilation and air conditioning, security access and video equipment, lighting, fire safety) in city offices and municipal facilities u2022 Observes monitoring screens to ensure the proper functioning of security access control systems u2022 Reads manufacturer specifications, mechanical and control drawings and technical manuals to determine appropriate installation and repair methods to use u2022 Tests and programs networks using various communication protocols (e.g., LON, Modbus, BACnet) u2022 Performs on-site inspections of digital controls to ensure the proper operation and sequencing of systems in new and renovated facilities u2022 Tests and troubleshoots related equipment and devices (e.g., network controllers, routers, gateways, remote input/output modules) and adjusts or replaces defective circuitry or electronic components u2022 Performs preventive maintenance functions to ensure proper systems operations and to reduce equipment downtime u2022 Reviews and analyzes building operation and energy reports and modifies program applications to optimize system performance u2022 Participates in meetings with project managers, contractors and skilled trades to review installation specifications for new BAS u2022 Records data on inspection results and testing techniques and generates related reports u2022 Recommends the purchase of parts and equipment used in repairing and maintaining digital controls _Additional duties may be required for this position._ Location: City Wide Days: Monday - Friday Hours: 7:00AM u2013 3:30PM THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: u2022 Successful completion of a US Department of Labor registered Electrical Mechanic apprenticeship training program and journeyman status; OR Should the above criteria not be fulfilled, the following options are available: u2022 Successful completion of an industry or company sponsored apprenticeship training program as an Electrical Mechanic, PLUS two (2) years of journey level work experience as an electrical mechanic u2022 Seven (7) years of journey level work experience as an electrical mechanic Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications u2022 A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required Education & Employment Verification - Please be advised that if you are selected to be hired you must provide, upon request, adequate information regarding your educational and employment history as it relates to the qualifications of the position for which you are applying. SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This is a non-interview Tested title. This position requires applicants to complete a written test / skills assessment. Test results will be sent out by the Department of Human Resources after test results have been analyzed and compiled. Bidders who receive a passing score on the test will be hired in seniority order according to the collective bargaining agreement. Applicants who receive a passing score on the test will be hired in lottery/random order.
