SCADA Engineer - Renewables & Grid Date: Apr 21, 2026 Location: Overland Park, KS, US Denver, CO, US Houston, TX, US Company: Black & Veatch Family of Companies Job Summary Black & Veatch isseekingaSCADA engineeringprofessional to assist in the technical designof substation and renewable energy Supervisory Control and DataAcquisition(SCADA) systems. Black & Veatch (B&V) is engaged in a variety ofSCADAengineering and design activities in support ofsubstation modernization and renewable energy integration. This work entailsconceptual and detailed design of SCADAhardware, networking equipment, fiber networks,datalinks,pointslist, RTUconfigurations, remote I/O module configurations,Meter configurations, PMU/PDC device configurations,andHuman Machine Interface (HMI) dividual must have the ability toperformquality assurancechecking,man hour estimates,specify equipment part numbers for project work,proposalspecificationwriting,standards development,factory acceptance testing,cyber security auditing,and commissioning support at sites or remotely.Professionals will be integrated into our existing teams based on expertise and experience. Key Responsibilities + Working directly with the project team to generate engineering design documents and deliverables(drawings,pointslist,configuration files, etc.)for systemsandcomponents related to thesubstationand renewable energy SCADA systems.Provide oversightand leadlower-level engineering work or assignments.Previouscontrols systemdesign experience forpower projects.Ability to teach otherengineersthefundamental SCADA concepts.Utilize effectiveverbalcommunicationskillsto convey, teach and/or sell ideas.Excellent writingskills.Coordinate SCADA Project work for timely execution.Prioritize important task.Provideclientsrecommended solutions based onstandards, best practicesand industrystandards.Previouscontrols systemdesign experience forpower projects.Experience in developingcontrol system network architecture diagrams,datalink pointslist,control narratives, control logic diagrams, protection and control drawings,andprocurement specifications forSCADAequipment.Experience inreading one-line diagrams,three-line AC schematics,andDC schematics.Understanding DNP3 protocolUnderstandhow to configure devicesu2019ethernet comm settingsin IPV4 addressing withend devices, ethernet switches and router (default gateway) present.Understand how to configure devicesu2019 serial comm settings inethernet RS-232 or RS-485.Experience in HMI screen development.Experience inRTU configurationdevelopment.Experience inunderstanding protective relays, substation and renewable energyautomation systemsconfiguration files.Experienceinconfiguring devices for Synchrophasor data work: PMUdevices, PDC devices and DFRs.Providing remote support tothe field construction team on how to troubleshoot and fixissues. Preferred Qualifications Substationand renewable energy(wind, solar,battery energystorage) experiencewould be considered a plus. Experience with IEC 61850, Modbus,OPCUA,and othercontrol system protocolsover TCP/IP or serial. Experience withVMware,Factor Talk, Ignition, AVEVA HMIsoftware,Cloud View, Subnet Solutions, Factory Studio, Cimplicityor othervirtual/HMIsoftware platforms. Experience with protective relays, substation and renewable energyautomation systems. Experience with SEL RTAC and IED architecture design and configuration. Experience with Allen Bradley Control Logic PLC configuration. Experience withNERC-CIPcyber security standards. Experience with IEEE 1547 inverters controlled as a system. Experience with OT single mode fiber optic network design. Network troubleshootingskills and experience with network analysistools such as Wireshark, Modbus Poll, etc. Experience with Excel macros and VBA language. Excellent presentation skills. Ability to be both an individual contributor and work effectively in teams. Ability to accept both internal and external (client) feedback. Willingness to learn processes and procedures specific to thepowerindustry. Maintain some flexibility in work hours, if required by the client or project. Registration as a Professional Engineer. Minimum Qualifications Requires a bacheloru2019s degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of8yearsrelatedwork experience.All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations. Certifications Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and supports where necessary.
