Employment Type: Full time Shift: Day Shift Description: This Clinical Education Specialist will be supporting the Perioperative Services Department MercyOne Central Iowa sets the standard for personalized and radically convenient care in the Des Moines metro area and surrounding counties. MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center (, founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1893, is the longest continually operating hospital in Des Moines and Iowau2019s largest medical center, with 802 beds available. GENERAL SUMMARY: Develops and coordinates educational activities of the Perioperative Services Department including orientation of new personnel, in-service offerings, etc. Serves the population of neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: u00b7 Maintains orientation program, which is current with clinical practice in Perioperative Services and implements it for all new staff. u00b7 Acts as a liaison between new staff, current employees and managers. u00b7 Develops and coordinates educational activities of the department including continuing education of staff members and orientation of staff to new equipment/procedures. u00b7 Acts as resource person in such areas as policies and procedures, AORN/ASPAN standards and other clinical topics, regulatory requirements (Joint Commission, OSHA) and suggests updates to policies and procedures as needed. u00b7 Acts as professional role model and assists staff (especially preceptors) in professional development. u00b7 Supports and participates in departmental Performance Improvement projects. u00b7 Serves as liaison for all internal and external student programs and staff clinical experiences and the coordination of student observation/participation in the Perioperative Services Department. u00b7 Routinely performs procedures in the OR, maintaining a high level of visibility and interaction with both staff and physicians. u00b7 Actively participates in meetings and on inter-, intradepartmental, and external committees as assigned. u00b7 Coordinates and implements plan for competency evaluation of Perioperative Services staff. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: u00b7 Possession of a current or compact state license as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa. u00b7 Bachelor degree in nursing required, or actively in pursuit of BSN degree (accepted into a BSN Program and/or currently enrolled). Expected to take at least six credits per year at Unit Directoru2019s discretion for exception. u00b7 Minimum of two yearsu2019 experience in the Perioperative Services. u00b7 AORN/ASPAN Professional membership encouraged. u00b7 Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. The acceptable credentialing body is the American Heart Association. u00b7 Specialty Certification required within one (1) year of appointment to position. (Only if this is their main position, not secondary position) u00b7 Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire. u00b7 Ability to read, write and speak English.
