Job Description

The Neighborhood Liaison reports to a Deputy Director in the Office ofNeighborhood Services and is the principal representative of the Mayorin their assigned neighborhood. The Neighborhood Liaison?s primaryresponsibilities are: (1) performing excellent constituent services, (2)building strong relationships with key neighborhood leaders, (3)detecting and elevating key areas of growing concerns in their assignedneighborhood, (4) conducting community engagement on key Mayoralinitiatives, and (5) supporting constituents during periodic emergencyresponses (i.e. fires, water breaks, etc.). Who You Are: Someone who hasa customer service mindset. Can quickly learn to navigate City Hall andpartner with other City of Boston departments to address problems.Strong relationship builder who can manage multiple stakeholders. Hasthe ability to understand who the key players are and what theirinterests are on a particular issue. Adept at multitasking, managingmultiple projects & paying attention to detail. Exercises good and savvyjudgment in a political environment. Team player. Can remain flexible ina fast-paced environment. Passionate to serve our Mayor. Bilingualspeaker preferred. Responsibilities: Respond to every constituentinquiry in a respectful and timely manner and work with the appropriatedepartment to resolve inquiries when possible. Represent the Mayor inpublic settings and communicate the Mayor?s stance on critical issues inthe community. Regularly attend meetings and/or events hosted by localcommunity organizations or leaders to understand the pulse of theneighborhood you represent. Detect any brewing issues of concern in yourassigned neighborhood, elevate them to the Mayor?s Office and anyrelevant departments, and work with them to address the issue before itbecomes a major concern. Organize and host community meetings aroundcore mayoral initiatives and gather feedback on neighborhood issues.Conduct periodic listening sessions/focus groups with residents in yourassigned neighborhood. Until these responsibilities are transitioned,facilitate public processes, including but not limited to: zoningappeals, licensing, and cannabis proposals. Identify, build, andmaintain strong relationships with community leaders and/or those whohave the potential to become community leaders in your neighborhood.Support the Office of Scheduling and Advance to ensure appropriatestaffing, event promotion, and briefing. Connect constituents with statepartners and community stakeholder organizations. Support the Mayor?sOffice in executing programming and initiatives on the neighborhoodlevel. Respond to emergencies such as fires, gas leaks, and familydisplacement. Connect affected constituents with appropriate resources.Support a variety of Public Health emergencies and/or initiatives asrequired. Work closely with other City of Boston Departments, ISD,Public Works, Special Event, Elderly Commission, Transportation, etc.,to coordinate events. May perform dual roles of representing and servinga neighborhood and citywide cultural constituency. May advise the policyteam and/or relevant departments on issues related to the assignedneighborhood. Perform related work as required. Minimum EntranceQualifications: At least two (2) years of college, or equivalent,full-time and part-time experience in office administration, officemanagement, business management, or related field. Ability to establishand maintain effective working relationships with staff and personnel inother departments. Strong oral and written communication skills arepreferred. Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail asrequired by the job. Ability to build and maintain relationshipsquickly. BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED Terms: Union/Salary Plan/Grade:Non-Union/MO-7 Hours per week: 35
