Whittier College invites applications for an Adjunct Faculty for Art & Visual Studies. Exempt Status: Exempt (bi-weekly) Hours: Monday - Friday, 19 hours per week, Tues/Thurs 1:30 - 2:50pm Full Time/Part Time status:Part-time Semester: Fall 2026 Salary: $6, Reports to: Department Chair Location/Department: Whittier College / Academic Affairs / Art & Visual Studies Responsibilities The teaching load for this position is 1 courses per semester, and/or 3 credits. The position entails offering core courses in the field Art History & Visual Culture. The adjunct professor will teach the following course in Fall 2026: ART 180 Narrative, Creative Storytelling, and Brown Identities in the United States (3 units) Taught by a visiting artist, writer, or storyteller, this project-oriented course may feature personal biography, short fiction, art writing, oral histories, photo-based narrative, contemporary art practices or other types of storytelling and narrative created around the expansiveness of "brown" identities in the U.S. The course is open to all students and will be of special interest to those interested in exploring intersections of art, media, race, gender, and sexual orientation centered around Latinx, Asian American, Middle Eastern, south Asian, Indigenous, or other communities that may identify as "brown" in a racialized U.S. context. Course meets in person Tues/Thurs 1:30 - 2:50pm in Fall 2026 (August 19 - December 12, 2026) Position Qualifications and Requirements Adjunct instructors in Art & Visual Studies are required to have a minimum of Master’s degree or equivalent in art history, art, or a closely related humanities field. ABD or PhD in these fields is preferred. Teaching excellence is of primary importance, so preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate prior teaching experience.
