Collections Specialist

Description We are looking for a Collections Specialist to support finance operations in Troy, Michigan. This contract opportunity has the potential to become permanent and is ideal for someone who can manage customer accounts, follow up on outstanding balances, and contribute to accurate month-end financial activities. The role will work closely with customers and internal teams to resolve account issues, apply payments correctly, and maintain reliable financial records. Responsibilities: u2022 Manage customer account records by keeping billing details, payment information, and account status accurate and current u2022 Handle customer inquiries related to invoices, account adjustments, and payment activity in a timely and thorough manner u2022 Build positive working relationships with customers to encourage prompt payment and improve overall collection results u2022 Generate and distribute monthly customer statements to support account visibility and payment follow-up u2022 Prepare recurring Excel-based reports and account data summaries for external and internal reporting needs u2022 Support month-end close by reconciling accounts, reviewing transaction details, and producing financial reports u2022 Process customer payments, including credit card transactions, batch handling, cash application, and reconciliation with the payment processor u2022 Investigate billing or payment discrepancies, make corrections when needed, and document findings clearly u2022 Create and maintain process documentation to ensure accounting activities are performed consistently and accurately Requirements u2022 3-5 years of experience in collections, customer accounts, or accounts receivable support u2022 Background in commercial, consumer, or credit collections with strong knowledge of collection practices u2022 Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook, with the ability to organize and analyze financial data u2022 Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and adapt in a fast-paced environment u2022 Strong written and verbal communication skills with a detail-oriented customer service approach u2022 Experience collaborating across departments and building effective working relationships u2022 Familiarity with Sage Enterprise Management is helpful, but not required Robert Half is the worldu2019s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
