Summary NOTE: A recruitment/relocation incentive is being offered for this position. Clinical expanded function dental assistants perform assigned selected procedures with some independence. Some complex patient procedures are performed under indirect supervision of a more experienced clinical expanded function dental assistant or dentist. Serves in expanded function dental assistant positions independently performing more complex work in assigned specialties. Responsibilities Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Clinical expanded function dental assistants perform assigned selected procedures with some independence. Some complex patient procedures are performed under indirect supervision of a more experienced clinical expanded function dental assistant or dentist. Serves in expanded function dental assistant positions independently performing more complex work in assigned specialties. Must maintain current Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) certification. DANB provides a list of permissible clinical expanded function duties specific for each state. Assigned Duties but are not limited to: Performs mouth mirror inspection of the oral cavity Places and removes intracorneal temporary restoration Removes temporary crown/bridge and clean tooth preparation of debris Fabricates adjusts and cements temporary crowns Removes hard accretions from and polishes removable prostheses. Sets up operatory and/or surgery suite for planned dental procedure and cleans dental unit for timely turnover. Keeps operative field clear of debris and retracts oral tissues effectively and comfortably. Prepares dental medicaments and impression materials per manufacturer's instructions. Properly prepares instruments f or transfer to SPD for sterilization. Follows all Standard Operating Procedures for Reusable Medical Equipment. Works closely with SPD to ensure availability of instruments so that clinical care is not delayed. Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA with written and verbal information. Participates in patient identification and time out per Joint Commission requirements . Work Schedule: 6:30am - 3:00pm Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): A lump sum 15% recruitment incentive of $6,811.35 (15 percent of yearly salary $45,409) is authorized for this position. This incentive is contingent on completing a two-year service agreement of full-time employment at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. The incentive will be paid within two periods of the start of the service period. Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
